Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

1996 saw a big shake up of the domestic rugby league competition in England with the establishment of a new competition called the Super League. The new Super League brought together rugby league teams from England and France with the original plan being for the league to feature two French teams, however, when the league started the only French team was Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), a team established by the football club of the same name. There was also a big change in terms of when the sport was played with the Super League running during the spring/summer rather than during the autumn and winter. This aligned the league with the rugby league season in Australia and also meant that rugby league would be played at a different time of year to rugby union, which had turned professional a year earlier.

The first match of the 1996 Super League season took place on 29th March at Charlety Stadium in Paris, where PSG beat Sheffield 30-24. St Helens were the overall winners of the league. Workington Town were relegated and replaced for the 1997 Super League season by Salford Reds.
