Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the start of Leg 5 in Santiago, Chile, racers had to find whose vehicle?

Answer: Marilyn Monroe's

Teams were taken to the Chilean capital of Santiago in Leg 5 and there, departing from Plaza de Armas in the morning in set groups (based on their arrivals at the previous Pit Stop in Medellín), they ripped open their clues to discover they would be self-driving in manual vehicles around the city. To kick off the leg, they needed to locate Marilyn Monroe's 1956 Ford Thunderbird in the city, navigating to Argomedo Performance Garage once they figured out its location.
2. In Leg 5, teams joined Santiago locals and built which of these in a city park?

Answer: Skateboards

Leaving Marilyn's car behind, racers had to drive further into Santiago to locate Skatepark Parque Araucano and their Road Block task for this fifth leg. For this task, the selected racers (Danny, Rod, Juan, Cesar, Vinny, Melissa, Derek, Karishma, and Bizzy) had to construct a skateboard, basing their build off the design of a local skater's example. If they could get the wheels, trucks, and deck correctly-made, they could receive their next clue.
3. Which team completed the 'Perform for Pesos' Detour task in Santiago (in Leg 5)?

Answer: Rod and Leticia

Immediately after completing their Road Blocks, teams had to embark on one of two Detour options, the first of these being 'Perform for Pesos'. In this task, racers drove themselves to Parque Quinta Normal to locate the chinchineros, local street performers who would form the basis of their challenge. While one team member donned the large one-man-band outfit of the performer, the other would walk around with maracas, collecting money from locals. If they could accumulate 2,500 pesos, they could get their next clue.

Angie and Danny, Ricky and Cesar and Rod and Leticia finished this task.
4. In the 'Climb for Clues' Detour in Leg 5, racers climbed up the side of which of these buildings?

Answer: Cement factory

Teams opting for the more physical Detour option could complete 'Climb for Clues' instead, visiting the outdoor Parque Escalada Los Silos, a repurposed cement factory, for their task. For this, racers had to climb the six-storey rock climbing walls up the side of the building with each participant collecting a small race flag from the top of the course. Those flags could be traded for their next clue.

Juan and Shane, Amber and Vinny, Yvonne and Melissa, Derek and Shelisa, Sunny and Bizzy and Kishori and Karishma took this physical option.
5. Which team was last to check in at the Pit Stop in Santiago (being eliminated in 9th place)?

Answer: Kishori and Karishma

To end Leg 5, racers had to drive themselves to the Pit Stop waiting inside the former train station of Estación Mapocho in Central Santiago. Ricky and Cesar narrowly edged out Juan and Shane for a third consecutive prize win, this time getting enough Expedia points for a five-day trip to Singapore.

After falling victim to poor navigation, struggles with their vehicle, and slow challenge attempts, cousins Kishori and Karishma landed on the mat last and became the fifth team eliminated from the competition.
6. How many groups of teams set out at the start of Leg 6 in Córdoba, Argentina?

Answer: Three

Teams were flown via charter flight to Argentina's second-largest city, Córdoba. at the start of Leg 6, and upon opening clues in their set groupings at La Cañada, they were informed that they would be competing in a Mega Leg-- two sets of Detours; two sets of Road Blocks. Teams left in one of three departure groups this leg (of two, three, and three teams, respectively) each leaving fifteen minutes apart, and as in Santiago in Leg 5, they needed to navigate and drive themselves.

Their first destination: Plaza del Bicentenario.
7. In the 'Bicicleta' Detour task in Córdoba, racers needed to crush which of these materials?

Answer: Plastic

Reaching Plaza del Bicentenario, racers opened their first Detour clues of the Mega Leg and chose between 'Bicicleta' and 'Boleadora'. 'Bicicleta' had teams locating Plaza Ex.Vélez Sársfield in the heart of Córdoba, and upon arriving they could choose a special stationary bicycle with an attached grinder. To get their next clue, racers had to grind enough plastic bottles using only their pedal power to fill up a bucket to a marked line. Danny and Angie, Amber and Vinny, Rod and Leticia, and Sunny and Bizzy, Derek and Shelisa headed to this task.
8. For the 'Boleadora' Detour option in Leg 6, both racers needed to complete the task of hitting their target.

Answer: True

The 'Boleadora' task sent teams racing to Sarmiento Park to meet local gauchos. There, racers had to hop onto a wooden horse and, with a boleadoras (or bolas), they had to properly toss and wrap their weapon around a moving cattle target. Each team would get ten bolas to throw or, else, they would have to collect them and try again. For this task, each racer had to successfully wrap the boleadoras with the ten provided to get the clue. Ricky and Cesar, Juan and Shane, and Yvonne and Melissa finished this challenge.
9. Racers who completed the Mega Leg's first Road Block (outside Córdoba) did so in the passenger seat of what vehicle?

Answer: Rally car

Leaving the Detour, teams had to drive to the outskirts of Córdoba to find Circuito Lobo Race and a waiting Road Block task. For this one, racers had to have a good sense of direction as they selected one team member to get into the passenger seat of a rally car and take a ride around a bumpy 1.5 mile course.

At the end of the ride, that team member had to recreate track using nine puzzle pieces on a grid board to get their next clue. The catch was that they only had three minutes to finish the puzzle or, else, they had to take the ride again. Ricky, Juan, Leticia, Amber, Angie, Sunny, Melissa, and Derek took this ride.
10. After completing the Road Block at the end of the Mega Leg's first half, did teams need to find a Pit Stop mat?

Answer: No

Although the Mega Leg functions like a Keep On Racing Pit Stop, racers are told in advance that they will be encountering two Detours and two Road Blocks on the way to their next mat, so as soon as they left Circuito Lobo Race outside Córdoba, they dove directly into their second set of tasks for this leg of the race.

This meant teams could drive themselves back into Córdoba proper to find Estadio La Boutique. Had there been a Pit Stop mat immediately after the Road Block, Juan and Shane would have been considered team number one.
