Fun Trivia
Language - Grammar - Spelling

From the Webmaster : Our editors do not have the time to spend hours fixing every one of your typos or spelling mistakes. Please use complete sentences, good grammar, and correct spelling. Games that do not will not be accepted. Common sense applies:
  • Capitalize names.
  • End questions with question marks.
  • Keep capitalization consistent.
  • Avoid typos by reading over what you have written before you submit. You can also copy and paste your quiz into a word processor, but please note that some homophones (like its and it's) may not show up as incorrect. A third option is to have someone you trust read over your quiz with you - sometimes another person will see things that you have missed.
  • DO NOT WRITE IN CAPS LOCK.
  • If you are new to our site, do not use any fill in the blank questions.

Some Examples of Capitalization : All words that would be capitalized according to accepted grammatical rules should be capitalized in Quizzyland. This includes names, titles, places, etc. Nationalities should be capitalized. For example:
  • He was a French painter in the biographical epic.
  • She played an Irish hero in this gender-bending comedy.

In titles, all major words should be capitalized. The following are examples of correct capitalization:
  • Beauty and the Beast
  • The Sixth Sense
  • Save the Last Dance
  • From the Earth to the Moon

FITBs: Upper and Lower case : Fill in the Blank answers are NOT case sensitive in Quizzyland. Thus, if you put as a correct answer 'John Milton', the following will be counted as correct: John Milton, john milton, John milton, john Milton, JOHN MILTON. These extra combinations of capitalization are repetitive and unnecessary. Do not put them into your quiz.

Date Formats : Please avoid writing dates with digits according to your local customs, such as 3.16.88 or as 13.2.94; write the date out in full as March 16th, 1988 or 13th February 1994, or whatever is your local custom.

Spelling : As this is an international site, local variations in spelling are permitted, e.g. all of the following are acceptable: color, colour, realise, realize, metre, meter, program, programme, jail, gaol, litre, liter, sulfur, sulphur, analog, analogue, donut, doughnut, jewelry, jewellery, mustache, moustache, check, cheque, etc.

Quotation Marks : The normal rules of punctuation apply and, on the same basis that local variations of spelling are acceptable, local punctuation/quotes customs are also acceptable; as this is an international site. Some general guidelines:
  • please put titles of movies, books, television shows, television episodes, songs, albums, lyrics, musicals, comic books and video games in quotations
  • it is not necessary to put quotation marks around the title of your quiz, as they're redundant; quotation marks are used to separate title/quotes from its surrounding text/words in a sentence or title, as the case may be, e.g. this quiz title is correct:-
Zeppelin on the "Stairway To Heaven"
whereas this quiz title is not correct:-
    "Romeo and Juliet"
  • do not use quotation marks in an FITB answer

    3. Cats are beautiful animals with a long tail. What is the correct way to write this sentence?

    From Quiz Singular Pluralities

Answer: Cats are beautiful animals with long tails.

When you are trying to judge if the sentence is correct, look at the singular and plural words in the sentence. "Cats" is a plural word, so "tails" must be plural too. Another correct way to write this sentence would be, "A cat is a beautiful animal with a long tail."

    5. Add the punctuation to the end of the sentence: Name the dog that was in the movie

From Quiz There, They're, and Their

    Answer: there

    13. _______a shame that __________moving away. Our kids play with _____kids so well!

From Quiz Your You're Whosit Whatsit Test

The company lost its status. (possessive). It's too bad the employees lost their status. It is = contraction. I know it sounds easy, but as a spellchecker won't get it, both exist in English, you'll want to check it.
