Answer: Kayako's hand

Kayako puts her hand underneath Karen's head as a way to scare her, when Karen realises this she turns around, but the hand is gone. Karen sees Kayako again in the reflection on the bus and a few times in the house.

The plot starts with three girls leaving the International High School, on their way to check out Kayako's house. The school name is subtitled in when the girls start leaving the school. It doesn't sound like a real school name.

Karen works at the Social Service Center, and is assigned to care for Emma Williams after Yoko doesn't show up for work.

The first three people to die (chronologically speaking) were the family that now haunts the cursed house: little Toshio (1) and his mother Kayako (2) are killed by his father Takeo (3), who then kills himself. Peter (4), played by Bill Pullman, leaps to his death in the opening scene. Yoko (5) gets dragged up into the attic and killed. Emma (6) is killed off screen and found dead in her bed. Emma's son, Matthew (7), and his wife, Jennifer (8), are found dead in the attic shortly after moving into the house. Matthew's sister, Susan (9), is killed in her bed by Kayako. Alex (10) is killed off-screen, most likely by Yoko's ghost. Detective Nakagawa (11) gets drowned in the bathtub by Takeo's ghost. Finally, Karen's boyfriend, Doug (12), dies in the climactic scene when Kayako crawls down the stairs. We may also include Nagakawa's former partners, but the story never reveals exactly what happened to them.

Yoko is a volunteer at the Care Centre, like Karen, who gets a job looking after a sick woman who is living in Kayako's house. Yoko is a sweet and innocent girl who rides a bike to work everyday, but unfortunatly she gets involved with Kayako's curse. Yoko hears a noise coming from the attic. She goes up there only to find Kayako who then rips off her jaw which the Japanese police find later on in the movie.

Answer: The two girls get scared and run, leaving Allison behind.

Allison gets locked in the closet by Kayako and the others get scared and run, leaving Allison behind. Allison eventually gets out and runs off too (I guess Kayako let her go). I was expecting a little more action here in the beginning but the girls escape, seemingly unharmed.

Answer: Yoko

Yoko dies early in the movie, and is presumed dead and gone. Later, she is seen by Alex walking around bloody, broken, and with no lower jaw. The next thing we find out is that Alex is dead too. By movie's end, we know that Yoko's movements (all herky-jerky, snapping and crackling) were consistent with Kayako's, and thus that she was a ghost, and not just barely alive.

Karen thinks that burning down the house will stop Kayako killing, but as we find out in the sequel - she only makes it worse. Now Kayako can spread her curse to next door and can kill people who haven't stepped inside her house.

Edison Chen, who plays the Japanese journalist, is a star from Hong Kong. At first he hesitantly introduces himself as a journalist and comes off a little mysterious. You're not sure what to think of him, or where he really comes from, but as the movie goes on it becomes more obvious that he's just someone trying to figure out what's going on.

The entire tagline to "The Grudge" is, "It never forgives. It never forgets. Once you see it, you can never forget. Once it sees you, you can never escape. The whole time I was in that house, I knew something was wrong. They say that when someone dies in a powerful rage, a curse is made. The curse is about to claim another victim." The tagline relates to the movie because it tells that once you enter this cursed house, the curse will claim you too. It's the whole plot of the movie in a few lines.

The jaw was found in the attic, but the body had disappeared. Yoko's ghost was seen later, dripping blood, with no bottom jaw and her tongue just hanging down. Yuck.

Answer: Allison is in hiding at a neighbor's apartment.

This answer is not realized until near the end of the movie, when Allison is revealed as the mystery woman. Allison's curse from Kayako has spread to the neighboring apartment units, including Trish's apartment. I didn't immediately place my finger on it but I soon realized that Trish is played by Jennifer Beals who, many years ago, played the lead role of the struggling dancer in "Flashdance".

Jason Behr plays Doug, Karen's boyfriend. A nice character, Doug always looked out for Karen throughout the movie, including going to the cursed house to look for her when she didn't show up at their apartment.

Even though the first person we see killed in the movie is Yoko, as the story goes on, we learn that Jennifer and (moments later) her husband, Matthew, were the first victims of the grudge, leaving his mother Emma all alone in the house, which is where Yoko the caretaker comes in. The whole story is told in non-linear time like this. Also, I don't consider Peter a victim of the curse because it could easily be argued that he just committed suicide after finding Kayako dead.

Answer: Kayako makes him jump off a balcony.

Peter jumps off a balcony, which we see at the start off the movie. When Karen goes into the house for the last time, the house shows her a flashback of what happened when he went in there. He finds Kayako's journal which says that she's in love with a guy named Peter but then he turns around and sees loads of pictures of Kayako with pins in her eyes. After that he goes into another room where he see Takeo hung on a piece of Kayako's hair and Toshio swinging the body. Kayako makes him jump off the balcony because he has entered the house before, when Kayako was alive. Therefore he has become part of the curse.

Answer: Her boyfriend is in the shower.

While her boyfriend is preoccupied in the shower, Miyuki lollygags around on the bed. Kayako attacks her from under the sheets and pulls her into the mirror. He comes out of the bathroom and Miyuki's nowhere to be found. A similar kind of attack happens in the first "Grudge" movie. I wasn't all that spooked.

The bloody jaw, of course, turns out to belong to Yoko, whom we later see ambling along in her former office at night covered in gore, with no lower jaw.

A ghostly hand was coming out of her head. An interesting fact about this scene is that Sarah Michelle Gellar discovered that she had an allergic reaction to Japanese water. Her skin started getting a nasty rash, so they wrapped garbage bags around her legs and the places not on camera for the scene.

Yoko's death is one of the first we see in this movie. She goes up into the attic and Kayako rips her jaw off. The police find this later on when they find the bodies of the current residents curled up in the corner. Yoko then visits Karen's boss and kills him (although we don't see this).

Answer: Jake hides while the woman leaves and the scene ends.

Most horror flicks build up to the scare and keep you guessing with false alarms. It's quite surprising to see Kayako and Toshio appear in just about every scene. This is one of the few scenes in this movie that ends without some kind of ghostly end or climax. The woman hears something but doesn't see Jake. After she is done getting some newspaper, she turns once again but just leaves with Jake in hiding.

In every picture, Kayako can be seen off in the background, usually looking at Peter. We eventually discover that she was deeply in love with him, and was probably stalking him.

Answer: Takashi Shimizu

Takashi Shimizu directed the original Japanese 'Ju On' films and also the American version, 'The Grudge'. He is well known in Japan as one of the best horror movie directers. Since writing and directing 'The Grudge' Shimizu has worked on other horror movies such as 'Marebito' (2004) and 'The Great Horror Family', TV series (2004-2005).

Answer: Aubrey is taking a nap.

Aubrey is at Eason's place and Eason offers Aubrey some tea. Aubrey appears exhausted and falls asleep. Eason goes to the developing room to check out some picture and is attacked by Kayako while Aubrey takes a nap. I was waiting for Aubrey to eventually wake up and save Eason but I guess they just needed to kill off Eason. This is one of the many scary attack scenes.

Answer: He went crazy when he found his wife was in love with another man

Kayako was in love with Peter, who was a professor of hers in the recent past. She had a book, like a journal, in which she professed her love over and over, with little hearts, drawings, and such. Takeo found the book and snapped. He killed Kayako, drowned Toshio in the bathtub, and hung himself, and so began the curse.

She had a rabbit's foot on her cell phone, but lost it in the stairwell in the building where she worked, when the curse was coming for her. However, the rabbit's foot wasn't the only thing hiding in the bed with her.

Karen is volunteering at the Care Centre to get her degree. In this scene we see that they are a happy couple, only that all goes awry when Karen enters the house. This scene is used to make the audience understand more about the background concerning the two main characters. The audience also gets to meet Karen's boss, so that Kayako can kill him later on in the movie. Doug goes into the house to find Karen, after finding her research and, unfortunately, Kayako kills him.
