They married in 1956 and had three children, Caroline, Albert and Stephanie. In 1982 while returning from her country home with her daughter Stephanie, she suffered a stroke and lost control of the car, not far from the scene in the movie where she and Cary Grant had a picnic overlooking Monaco. This caused a car accident which resulted in her death.

He spends the whole film trying to find the real thief and clear his name.
