Bee Gees Trivia Questions

1. 'Here I lie in a lost and lonely part of town. Held in time in a world of tears I slowly drown. Going home I just can't make it all alone.' Which Bee Gee's song?

From Quiz
The Bee Gees

Answer: Tragedy

'Tragedy', a song written and performed by The Bee Gees, brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice. It reached number one in the UK in 1979, and again in 1998 when it was covered by Steps.

2. Today, Odessa is a Ukrainian port on the Black Sea - but let's take you back to when it was Soviet - when was the Bee Gees album "Odessa" released?

From Quiz Bee Gees - "Odessa"

Answer: 1969

There are many differing thoughts on why they did this album - I think it was their "biggest" statement. To me it is their only mood piece - with a tremendous sense of atmosphere. The orchestration is superb and the "stretch" into art rock/classic territory was brilliant.

3. Which bootleg was the unreleased song "Heat of the Night" an outtake of?

From Quiz Do You Know The Bee Gees?

Answer: Spirits Having Flown

You can find this song on numerous bootleg compilations. It's an incredible song.

4. Which Bee Gee was badly burned as a toddler?

From Quiz The Brothers' Gibb

Answer: Barry

This led to Barry not speaking until he was three years old.

5. '___ the tears and the turbulent years When I would not wait for no-one Didn't stop and take a look at myself And see me losing you'

From Quiz Bee Gees Add a Word

Answer: all

The song is "For Whom the Bell Tolls" released in 1993 on the Album "Size Isn't Everything". "When a lonely heart breaks ..."

6. Barry Gibb sings: "I see the angel and the devil in your heart. I confess, either one is my addiction".

From Quiz The Still Waters Album

Answer: Still Waters Run Deep

"Still Waters Run Deep" is the title song on this album released in 1997. "Just remember when we lie to each other, no one wins and losers weep."

7. "I keep straining my ears to hear a sound. Maybe someone ..."

From Quiz The Record, Disc One

Answer: is digging under ground.

New York Mining Disaster 1941 ... "I keep straining my ears to hear a sound. Maybe someone is digging under ground, or have they given up and all gone home to bed, thinking those who once existed now are dead. Have you seen my wife Mr. Jones?" Written in an empty echoing stairwell and recorded in 1967, this is likely one of the Bee Gees most familiar hits.

8. Name the song that the following lyric is from: "...where did she go when I need her close to me; and the perfect story ended at the start..."

From Quiz The Bee Gees & Andy Gibb Lyrics (1970-83)

Answer: Love So Right

One of my 'first' favorites, "Love So Right", a beautiful, yet bittersweet ballad, hit # 3 on the Pop chart in December, 1976. The song is featured on the platinum "Children of the World" LP.

9. 'Grease' was the word for this artist, thanks to Barry Gibb.

From Quiz Thanx 4 the Song!

Answer: Frankie Valli

One of my favorite m'ovie musicals! Robert Stigwood was one of the producers of 'Grease and also helped launch the career of the Bee Gees.

10. What album is "Down To Earth" on?

From Quiz BeeGees songs

Answer: Idea

One of my favorites on the album.

11. The Gibb brothers were born in

From Quiz BeeGees..The Prequel

Answer: Douglas, Isle of Man

Douglas is their birth place but they've lived everywhere else.

12. 'I can feel the speaking Sky' is a line from which song?

From Quiz BeeGees

Answer: 'Red Chair,Fade Away'

From 'Bee Gees 1st'

13. 'She's juicy and she's trouble. She gets it to me no good. My woman gives me power. Goes down to my blood.' Which Bee Gees song?

From Quiz The Bee Gees

Answer: You Should Be Dancing

'You Should Be Dancing' reached five in the UK singles charts; it was the record which lead them into dance music, and wow didn't they do it well. A disco was not, and still is not, the same without one of the Bee Gee dance numbers. The song also features right at the end of the film 'Despicable Me' and provides a good bit of humour to what was already a great funny family film. If you have not seen this film I highly recommend it.

14. Who was the manager/producer of the "Odessa" album?

From Quiz Bee Gees - "Odessa"

Answer: Robert Stigwood

Phil Spector was the "Wall of Sound", Donn Arden was ELO's manager and Brian Epstein was the Beatles' manager of course. Many said that "Odessa" was the Bee Gees' "Sgt Pepper's" equivalent. Australian Stigwood had huge success with a number of artists such as Cream.

15. Including unreleased ones, how many solo studio ALBUMS does Robin Gibb have?

From Quiz Do You Know The Bee Gees?

Answer: New York Mining Disaster 1941

"Three Kisses Of Love" was one of their first Australian hits.

17. 'You better beware, I swear I'm gonna be there one day when you fall ___ could never let you cast aside The greatest love of all'

From Quiz Bee Gees Add a Word

Answer: I

1987, the album was "E.S.P." "There's no fight you can't fight This battle of love with me. You win again ..."

18. Maurice sings: "She'll read your mind. She's smart as a whip".

From Quiz The Still Waters Album

Answer: Closer than Close

In concert (One Night Only, Las Vegas) Robin says that it's time for Maurice to make a complete fool of himself. He doesn't. "Closer than Close" will send you searching for other songs on which Maurice sings lead. Hint, there's two on "This is Where I Came In". It was a sad day January 13th, 2003 when my favourite Bee Gee passed away.

19. "Now it's my turn to say and I say you're ...."

From Quiz The Record, Disc One

Answer: a holiday.

Holiday ... "Ooh you're a holiday, every day, such a holiday. Now it's my turn to say and I say you're a holiday. It's something I thinks worthwhile If the puppet makes smile If not then you're throwing stones. Throwing stones, throwing stones." The album was "Bee Gees 1st" recorded in 1967.

20. Name the song that the following lyric is from: "...say my thought, should I find out she don't care at all..."

From Quiz The Bee Gees & Andy Gibb Lyrics (1970-83)

Answer: (Love Is) Thicker Than Water

The late Andy's second hit single, "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" became his second consecutive # 1 Pop hit in March, 1978. Interestingly, the song replaced his brothers' hit, "Staying Alive", at # 1. Further, the following week, their song, "Night Fever", would replace Andy's hit in the # 1 spot! By the way, according to the "VH1 Rock Stars Encyclopedia", Eagles quitarist, Joe Walsh, played guitar on this song.

21. Which Andy Gibb song contained the following lyric: 'But dreams are made for those who really try'?

From Quiz Thanx 4 the Song!

Answer: (Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away

Both this song and 'Why' were on Andy's second album, 'Shadow Dancing.' 'Fanny' is actually a Bee Gees song (from the 'Main Course' album). When this song was performed on the Bee Gees special 'One Night Only' I almost cried- it was so beautiful! (I know you don't care, but still)

22. What is the only song ever sung by the BeeGees on an album that is not actually written by them?

From Quiz BeeGees songs

Answer: Such A Shame

Another song off the "Idea" album. It was written by lead guitarist Vince Melouney and sung by Maurice.

23. Who are the twins?

From Quiz BeeGees..The Prequel

Answer: Robin and Maurice

Robin and Maurice are fraternal twins - Robin is the elder by 30 minutes.

24. What was the last recorded album the Bee Gees released before they broke up in 1969?

From Quiz BeeGees

Answer: 'Odessa'

Perhaps it should have been called 'Spicks and Spats'..but brotherly love brought them back.

25. 'One day I'm gonna lift the cover and look inside your heart. We gotta level before we go and tear this love apart. There's no fight you can't fight this battle of love with me.' Which Bee Gee's record is this?

From Quiz The Bee Gees

Answer: You Win Again

'You Win Again' was a 1987 hit for the brothers. Maurice Gibb once stated in an interview that he liked it that when a Bee Gees song was played you instantly knew it was them by the jabba-doomba jabba-doomba sound, and this was no exception.

26. What was the name of the B-Side song on the international single "Jumbo"?

From Quiz Do You Know The Bee Gees?

Answer: The Singer Sang His Song

All of those songs cannot be found on albums and are only available as singles.

27. Which Bee Gee had alcoholic problems?

From Quiz The Brothers' Gibb

Answer: Maurice

For most of Maurice's life, he battled alcoholic problems until ending them in the '90s.

28. This is a tidbit from Smoke and Mirrors ... "to heed the ____ my father said."

From Quiz Bee Gees Add a Word

Answer: words

It's on the "Still Waters" album, 1997. And begins ... "When I was a boy, all the books I read, I followed like a blind man ..."

29. "I don't have a right to follow you. Don't have a licence to get closer".

From Quiz The Still Waters Album

Answer: Obsessions

On the video "Keppel Road" the Brothers refer to "Obsessions" as the "stalker song". Something a bit different, both the song and the video have a dark, nebulous feel.

30. "And now I've found that the world is round and of course ..."

From Quiz The Record, Disc One

Answer: it rains everyday

World ... "Now I've found that the world is round and of course it rains everyday. Living tomorrow, where in the world will I be tomorrow? How far am I able to see? Or am I needed here?" I'd never heard this one until I got "The Record". It reminds me of that pessimistic philosophy of the late 60's. The future being a frightening thing.
