Ultimate Classic Rock website rated "Give A Little Bit" Supertramp's number one song, followed by "Bloody Well Right." The website said, "Hodgson's singalong paean to the Golden Rule has since completely transcended its respectable, but not massively huge, number 15 showing on the charts." The Golden Rule, found in the Bible, is a statement of Jesus's that one should "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

9. What inspired the writing of "The Logical Song"?

From Quiz Song by Song: "The Logical Song"

Answer: The years that Roger Hodgson spent at boarding school

Supertramp's founders, Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson, wrote the band's songs, and although Davies contributed to "The Logical Song," it was primarily written by Roger Hodgson. The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters awarded Hodgson the Ivor Novello Award for "The Logical Song" in 1980. According to Hodgson, as quoted by Paul Elliot in "Classic Rock Magazine," the song was "very autobiographical" and refers to when he was a "shy and sensitive" boy at boarding school, where he spent ten years of his youth. Hodgson attended the boarding schools Woodcote House (near Windlesham) and Stowe School (near Buckingham). Hodgson was also, in the words of Elliot, "deeply affected by his parents' divorce when he was 12." The future musician was given his first guitar as a parting gift from his father. Hodgson went on to form a band at boarding school.

"I'm A Believer" was a song by the Monkees. Hodgson told Songfacts, "That time, the late '60s, early '70s, was a very idealistic time, one of hope, a lot of peace and love and the dream of the '60s was still very alive and maturing, if you like. The Beatles had put out 'All You Need is Love' a year prior to that. I believed in love - it was always for love - and just felt that was the most important thing in life."

The narrator is in innocent awe of life before being sent away to be molded and forced to conform by his educational institutions. 22. "But then they sent me away to teach me how to be sensible / Logical, oh responsible, practical. / And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable / Oh clinical, oh intellectual, ____." What adjective is missing from the blank?

From Quiz Song by Song: "The Logical Song"

Answer: cynical

In an interview with "Exclusive Magazine," Roger Hodgson spoke of how we transform from "the innocence and wonder of childhood to the confusion of adolescence that often ends in the cynicism and disillusionment of adulthood." He also told the interviewer, "We are taught how to function outwardly, but not guided to who we are inwardly." We are shown how to be sensible, responsible, dependable, and practical, as the song says, but we are not shown how to, in the words of Hodgson, discover "our true self." The real question on the singer's heart - the question of who he is - is not addressed in school: "Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned I know it sounds absurd Please tell me who I am."

For the album, Rick Davies supplied clavinet, piano, and backing vocals. "Give A Little Bit" uses a Hohner clavinet, which is played through a Leslie speaker in the bridge of the song. A clavinet is an electrically amplified clavichord, which is a stringed rectangular keyboard frequently used in the Renaissance age. Bob Siebenberg played drums for the album, while Roger Hodgson played acoustic and electric guitar and supplied lead vocals.

27. What WON'T they call you if you don't "watch what you say"?

From Quiz Song by Song: "The Logical Song"

Answer: independent

"I said, watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical Liberal, oh fanatical, criminal." The French jazz band Pink Turtle covered "The Logical Song" on their 2008 album "Pop in Swing." At Vance, a German neoclassical power metal band, covered it on their 1999 album "No Escape." The song has been covered by Panic on the Titanic, Caravelli, Miami Horror, and the Young Romans as well.

28. Which "Crisis" track does NOT also appear on the live "Paris" album from 1980?

From Quiz Crisis? What Crisis?

Answer: Another Man's Woman

"Another Man's Woman" was performed at the concert in Paris, but could not be fitted onto the live album. Another version, however, was included on the live album, "It Was the Best of Times", recorded in London in 1997, and also on a bootleg live recording entitled, "Is Everybody Listening?" recorded in 1975 and released in 2001.

29. Which song from the album were these lines taken out of: "It's just heartbreaking; I should have known that it would let me down"?

From Quiz Breakfast In America

Answer: Gone Hollywood

The album cover was designed by the late Mike Doud. The waitress on the cover is depicted as the Statue of Liberty holding a glass of orange juice instead of the torch. The background is the skyline of New York City and the buildings have been replaced with a cornflake box, ashtray, cutlery, eggboxes, vinegar, ketchup, and mustard bottles. The plate of breakfast represents Battery Park, where the Staten Island Ferry leaves from. Also, the song "Dreamer" isn't even on the album.

30. Where are we having our kippers for "Breakfast in America"?

From Quiz The Very Best of Supertramp

Answer: Texas

Rick Davies hated this song - didn't want it on the 1979 album, much less as its name. Fortunately he came around.
