In 1959, Ruth Handler, co-founder of Mattel, introduced to the world the first Barbie Doll (which was named for her daughter Barbara) at the American Toy Fair in February in New York. The first doll sold for $3. The Barbie Doll is considered the highest collectible doll in the world. Barbie has been everything from a medical doctor to a Harley-Davidson girl...you name it and Barbie has done it! The making of Champagne dates back to Roman times. During the Middle ages, the champagne wine was considered drinkable at best. The makers of champagne wine soon realised that storing it in casks was not a good idea as the wine did not mature well...this is how bottling the wines came to be. It is believed that the "Tirage" or bottling took place before the first fermentation. Many thanks are given to the British by natives of the Champagne region, as they enjoyed the sparkling wines, and it was the Brits that wanted the wines to sparkle as they captured the light...thank goodness they insisted on that because the champagne that did not sparkle soon exploded its bottles almost immediately after being stored. However, for reasons which were never recorded, the sparkling champagne wines did not explode. In 1994, the Champagne merchants estimated that they made a profit of 14.4 thousand million Francs, which is a seventy percent sales of Champagne. In 1995, it was recorded that two hundred fifty million bottles of Champagne were sold worldwide. Champagne wines come in sweet, pink, and sparkling accents.
