The name Down the Line came from The Hollies version of Roy Orbison's "Go Go Go (Down the Line)". The band was formed in 1965 and the original line up consisted of Beeb Birtles, Daryl Cotton, John D'Arcy and Teddy Higgins. The band played covers of the British mod singers, mainly playing in small pubs and bars.

According to an interview MTV did with the Heathen himself, Jed Simon overheard something said between a member of Forbidden, and David Vincent of Morbid Angel, they were arguing about who was more metal! At one point the member of Forbidden turned to Vincent and said "Dude, when you were shouting at the devil, I was in league with Satan". This essentially means, "When you were a poseur, I was the real deal". The reference was the song "In League With Satan" (Also covered on a special pressing of the CD), it was one of the tracks on Venom's first album "Welcome To Hell".
