52. Cissy Houston, the mother of Whitney Houston, had a rich gospel singing career of her own. She was in all these gospel/soul groups except for the one that is a heavy metal group. Which one is that?
From Quiz City Folk (Part 3)
Answer:
Lamb of God
While Lamb of God is a heavy metal group, recording songs like "Burn the Priest" and "Ashes of the Wake", all the other groups are gospel groups to which Cissy Houston was a member, yes, even "The Drinkard Singers." Her family name was actually Drinkard--Cissy was born Emily Drinkard. Cissy Houston formed a gospel trio called The Gospelaires, along with her nieces, Dionne Warwick and Dee Dee Warwick. Cissy also sang lead for the soul group "The Sweet Inspirations" from 1967 to 1970. Cissy Houston was the first singer to record the song "Midnight Train to Georgia."
Houston, Texas is home to some of the most popular gospel churches in America, including Ecclesia, The Lakewood Church, Sojourn Montrose, Hope City, Faith Memorial Baptist Church, and so many more. The city hosts many gospel music events, such as the "I CAN SING" Gospel Vocal Talent Search, and the "Sunrise International Dance Company Family Christmas."
