On May 19, 1992 the NFL announced that five cities were in the running for an NFL franchise and that two of these cities would be awarded one. The cities were Jacksonville, Charlotte, St. Louis, Baltimore and Memphis. It was announced October 26, 1993 that Charlotte would get the 29th NFL team and 5 weeks later, on November 30, Jacksonville were awarded the 30th. Oddly enough, by 1997 St. Louis had a team (Rams moved from Los Angeles in 1995), Baltimore had a team (Cleveland Browns moved in 1996) and Nashville, Tennessee had a team (Oilers moved from Houston in 1997).
