Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix Trivia Questions

1. In 'Whack-a-Goomba', what exactly is used to whack the Goombas?

From Quiz
"Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Mini-Games

Answer: A hammer

'Whack-a-Goomba' is the first mini-game played in the Story Modes. In this mini-game, you use your hammer to whack the Goombas which will pop out of pipes on each side of you. To hit them, you simply need to step on the arrow which corresponds with the pipes on the screen. For every Goomba you hit, you earn a coin.

2. After going through the whirpool in World 2 you find an underground temple and go inside to find the second music key. However, it isn't easy to get it as you have to battle which underwater enemy?

From Quiz Let's Dance Again!

Answer: Blooper

All of these are underwater enemies but a giant Blooper is guarding the Music Key. You have to dance to the song "Blooper Bop," which is based on the underwater theme of "Super Mario Bros." For those of you who are not familiar with Mario enemies, Sushi was the shark that prowled the seas in "Super Mario 64" in "Dire, Dire Docks." Unagi is the giant eel that guarded the second star in "Jolly Roger's Lagoon." Cheep-Cheeps are fish that can fly or just stay in the water and have been a staple in most "Mario" games.

3. In 'Whee!', what two arrows must you stand on?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Mini-Games

Answer: Left and right

In 'Whee!', Mario is dropped from a tall height onto a trampoline. During this time, your feet should be planted on the left and right arrows. Once Mario reaches the trampoline, you have to time yourself so that you can make him fly back into the air. The better you time yourself, the higher Mario flies, and the more coins he receives. This game is chosen randomly after completing one of the worlds.

4. In which song can you stomp on Goombas in Mush Mode?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Songs

Answer: Jump! Jump! Jump!

"Jump! Jump! Jump!" is a song originally from "Super Mario Bros. 3" for NES, and it features Koopa at Normal stage and up, and Goombas at Very Hard stage and up. The song is very cheerful and quick, and it's also the first song of the second world (both in Story Mode and Story Mode EX). In "Frozen Pipes", you need to watch out for Spinies on the Very Hard stage and up, and Cheep Cheeps from Normal stage. In "Hop, Mario" and "Up, Down, Left, Right", all you need to worry about are your dance moves. Mush Mode isn't available for these two.

5. What does the manual suggest you place around the Dance Pad?

From Quiz Let's Dance

Answer: cushions

The dance pad can be very slippery at times especially if it gets covered with sweat or other liquids. Cushions should be placed around the Dance Pad just in case you fall. This way the cushions will- well, cushion your fall, if you happen to.

6. What mini-game is found in World 1?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Mini-Games

Answer: Flagpole Leap

You play 'Flagpole Leap' once in the first world, and then again before you head off to world 5 to chase after Bowser. The strategy to reach the top of the pole remains the same in both rounds. 'Whack-a-Goomba' is also found in World 1 while the rest are in different worlds.

7. What song do you need to dance to in order to obtain the Green Music Key? (Hint: The Green Music Key is the second one you obtain.)

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Songs

Answer: Blooper Bop

"Blooper Bop" was originally from the original "Super Mario Bros." for NES. The song is slow compared to the others, so all you need to worry about are the Bloopers and Big Blooper tentacles which pop up in Mush or Story Mode. You may recognize this song from many more games. Why? It's used in many underwater levels throughout the "Mario" series.

8. Which button do you hold on the Dance pad, while dancing to quit a song?

From Quiz Let's Dance

Answer: Start

This, however, gives you an automatic F rating not counting any of the arrows you hit. The start button also allows you to pause the game or confirm options.

9. How many treasure chests can you choose from in 'Hidden Treasure'?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Mini-Games

Answer: Two

In 'Hidden Treasure', you'll need to choose between two treasure chests. One has one measly coin inside of it, and the other will contain twenty-five coins. Before you choose, the money will be placed in the chests and they will spin around to try and mix you up. To choose a box, use the left or right arrows to walk beneath one and press the up arrow to open it.

10. In one play of Story Mode (or Story Mode EX), how many times do you dance on the SS Brass?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Songs

Answer: Twice

Regardless of whether you play Story Mode or Story Mode EX, you'll be dancing to the song "Always Smiling" in world 5. In stages Normal and up, you'll dodge Bullet Bills, and in Very Hard and up, there'll be Spinies to avoid. The song on the SS Brass which precedes "Always Smiling" is either "Into the Whirlpool" or "Step by Step" depending on which Story Mode you're playing. Since the question specifically asked about one play through a Story Mode, only one is added into the final answer. "Into the Whirlpool" is a version of "Pomp and Circumstance" (which everyone knows as the graduation song) and you avoid Spinies in Normal stage and up. "Step by Step" is from "Super Mario World" (SNES) and once again, Spinies are on Normal stage and up.

11. In 'Punch Up', who do you need to avoid hitting?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Mini-Games

Answer: Toad

In 'Punch Up', you need to shoot Koopas and Koopa shells with giant fists. To shoot these fists, you use the left, right, and up arrows. Hitting multiple Koopas at once will earn you many points, but hitting Toad will paralyze you, much like a Spiny will in 'Banana Storm'. After you shoot a fist, you need to wait for it to regenerate again. For every ten points you earn, you get a coin.

12. What is the name of the song that is played when you fight Bowser?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Songs

Answer: Bowser's Castle

Yikes! This may be one of the most difficult songs in the game. Apart from a weird beat, the moves get chaotic after a while, and in Normal stage and up, you can collect rocket pieces to shoot at Bowser. Three pieces per rocket. The song is from "Mario Kart: Double Dash" for the Gamecube, and it's the last song in Story Mode (EX).

13. How many buttons does the Dance pad have?

From Quiz Let's Dance

Answer: eight & 8

There are eight buttons on the Dance Pad most of them based on the Gamecube controller. The buttons are Z, A, B, Start, Down, Up, Left, and Right. Unlike the Gamecube controller there are no X, Y, or C buttons.

14. In 'Banana Storm', what do you need to avoid?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Mini-Games

Answer: Spinies

In 'Banana Storm', your goal is to catch as many banana bunches as you can while they are being thrown down to you by monkeys. To move underneath the three monkeys, you use the left and right arrows. Occasionally, they'll trick you by not throwing a banana bunch down, and sometimes they'll throw Spinies at you. If you catch a Spiny, you'll be paralyzed for a few moments. For ever banana bunch you catch, you earn a coin.

15. In Story Mode EX, what is the final song in the fourth world?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Songs

Answer: Midnight Drive

While taking sleds down the mountain in the end of World 4, Toad and Mario are chased by an avalanche. In order to make it down the mountain in one piece, you need to dance! "Midnight Drive" is from "Mario Kart 64" (N64), and in it, you need to avoid Ice Spinies on Normal stage and up as well as Goombas on Hard stage and up. When you aren't in Story Mode EX, your normal song is "Rendezvous on Ice" from "Les Patineurs". It has the same Mush Mode as "Midnight Drive". After completing the dance, you can head back to World 1 and begin World 5.

16. The first thing you may want to do is go to the workout menu and keep track of how many calories you burn during a song. What button, on the character select screen, do you press to switch between names?

From Quiz Let's Dance

Answer: Z button

The left and right buttons will just switch between difficulties while the start button will obviously start you. The workout option is very useful, because it tells in total how many calories you burn when you select your character. Also on the workout screen, it shows how many calories you burned using the dance pad in the time you just played, and also tells how many calories you had burned in the past times you used the dance pad.

17. What is the time limit in 'Chain-Chomp Chase'?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Mini-Games

Answer: Ten seconds

Much like 'Flagpole Leap', you need to accelerate using the left and right arrows. As long as you stay out of the Chain-Chomp's mouth for ten seconds, the cash is as good as yours, but if you get eaten, prepare to suffer the consequences. This is possibly the shortest timed mini-game in the game.

18. Which song has Podoboos and Bob-ombs in its Mush Mode?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Songs

Answer: Starring Wario!

If you have Podoboos or Bob-ombs in your song, the Bob-ombs will be situated under the Dance meter, and you'll have to hit the Podoboos when you are told to to prevent the Bob-ombs from exploding and knocking a chunk off of your Dance Meter. The song featuring them, "Starring Wario!" is from "Wario World" (for Gamecube) Other than "Starring Wario!", "Destruction Dance" has the same Mush Mode.

19. The first song in the game is "Left, Right, Up, Down." This is a very easy song based off what little ditty?

From Quiz Let's Dance

Answer: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

This is a very easy song designed to get you started if you have never played, "Dance Dance Revolution" before. It introduces you to all the arrows as you dance in space on a star.

20. How many notes are able to be picked up in 'Note Pickup'?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Mini-Games

Answer: Thirteen & 13

In 'Note Pickup', you have to pick up notes resting on pedestals. During the mini-game, you'll try and jump onto the pedestals and back onto a small platform which will carry you across the level. Along the way, you need to avoid spinning bars by jumping them with the up arrow, and you'll have to avoid a line-up of Bob-ombs by timing a perfect jump. This game isn't played during the story modes, but you can access it in the mini-game menu.

21. Which song is from "Dr. Mario" (NES)?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Songs

Answer: Deep Freeze

"Where's the Exit?" is from "Super Mario Bros." (NES), "Pipe Pop" is a bit of "Turkish March" by Mozart, and "Up, Down, Left, Right" is a remix of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star". "Deep Freeze" is the song played when you fight the Giant Freezie on the top of the mountain in World 4. During the song, you must make sure that the Giant Freezie doesn't rise to the dance steps (like the Big Boo in "Boo Boogie") by hitting the Fire Flowers.

22. What is unique about Easy Mode?

From Quiz Let's Dance

Answer: It only has left and right arrows

Easy Mode, is very... well easy. Mush Mode which contains enemies and coins is only available in Normal Mode and up. Up and down arrows likewise only appear in Normal Mode.

23. In 'Fire Up the SS Brass', how many doors do you need to enter to reach the goal?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Mini-Games

Answer: Fifteen

In 'Fire Up the SS Brass', Mario will be in the SS Brass, and you'll need to hit the arrows to make him fly through certain tunnels. Occasionally, all of the tunnels will be open, but when you get near them, all but one will close, so you need to be swift. If you miss a tunnel and hit a closed door or a wall, Mario and the SS Brass will explode (yes, I know. It's tempting). Once you pass through the fifteenth door, you'll have reached the goal. This game needs to be unlocked before you play it. To unlock it, you need to have unlocked all of the previous mini-games. This mini-game is not found in story mode, but like 'Note Pickup', it's in the mini-game menu.

24. Which song is danced to in Truffle Towers?

From Quiz "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" Songs

Answer: Destruction Dance

The song, "Destruction Dance" is from the NES game "Wrecking Crew", and although it has an easy beat, it's not too easy when you're fending off Podoboos. In this dance, you battle Waluigi for the first Music Key, and after the battle Toad will tell you about the three other Music Key you need to find.

25. In story mode, who accompanies Mario?

From Quiz Let's Dance

Answer: Toad

Toad, the annoying person who can never seem to protect Princess Peach, is back. He always makes excuses as to why he can't dance but he provides some good comic relief in the game.

26. The first song in story mode is called "Here We Go!" This is based on which Mario game?

From Quiz Let's Dance

Answer: Super Mario Bros.

Several songs such as "Here We Go!" and "Blooper Bop," are based on songs from "Super Mario Bros". "Super Mario World" makes an appearance as the secret song for World 2.

27. After the first song you go to a warp pipe. However there is an enemy in the pipe and you must play a mini-game to enter it. What game must you play to enter the warp-pipe?

From Quiz Let's Dance

Answer: Whack-A-Goomba

Goombas the helpless evil mushrooms pop out of four pipes and you must whack them with your Hammer of Doom. You have to get at least ten to clear the game even though it's very easy to beat that record. You must use the arrow buttons to hit them.

28. OK, now that you have all four music keys, you return to Truffle Towers. You play the game, "Flagpole Leap" again when returning to Truffle Towers. What is the maximum score you can get on this mini-game?

From Quiz Let's Dance Again!

Answer: 5000

Depending on how you do, you get a hefty amount of coins. If you get the maximum score of 5000, you get fifty coins right in your wallet. This is one of the easier mini-games to collect coins.

29. After getting out of the pipe, you run across Lakitu who runs a store. He has the Key to Truffle Tower on display but will not give it to you unless you do him a favor by dancing. What is the name of the song you dance to when you do the favor?

From Quiz Let's Dance

Answer: Garden Boogie

Each of these is a dance of the four worlds. "Garden Boogie" involves you dancing to keep Koopas out of Lakitu's carrot patch. "Jump! Jump! Jump!" is from World 2 and involves you fixing a hotel of Toadette's. "Hammer Dance," is a duel against the Hammer Bros. of World 3. "Frozen Pipes" is the first song of World 4 involving you to dance to get through a warp pipe. The song, "Garden Boogie" is based on the famous opera, "Carmen."

30. The final battle is finally underway. Bowser challenges you to a dance-off. The song that he chooses is very appropriate to the dance off. What is the name of the song that Bowser challenges you to?

From Quiz Let's Dance Again!

Answer: Bowsers Castle

"Bowser's Castle" is by far the hardest song in the game. "Bowser's Castle" was taken from the awesome game "Mario Kart: Double Dash". In "Mario Kart: Double Dash," the music is very slow and eerie. In "Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix" that's a completley different story! The remix of that tune is basically fusion rock and the arrows go by so fast it would almost make your head spin.
