Shulamith's kitten was the foundation cat for the American Curl. The unusual formation of the ears are now found in the breed. Some kittens born to purebred American Curls can have normal ears, but most have the curling mutation.

Its body is long, broad, muscular, and deep chested. The coat color should be pure chalk-white, and its colored marking should be confined to the head and tail, with one or more random markings in the shoulder and rump regions.
