Jackie and Joan's father Joseph was a theatrical agent whose clients included The Beatles, Tom Jones, and Shirley Bassey. He was born in South Africa, before moving to London, where his three children were born in the 1930s.

When her husband finds out about the affair he divorces her, which paved the way for "The Bitch" to tell us how Fontaine managed alone with her ensuing financial problems.
At the time of their release, they were thought to be shocking; in several countries, the censors cut a scene of Joan in the nude before allowing the film to play in cinemas.
Nowadays they are considered cult classics by many fans.
As well as both the original novels, Jackie co-wrote the screenplay for "The Stud".
