Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which one of following Stooges was not related to the rest?

Answer: Larry

Larry Fine was born Louis Fineberg on Oct. 5, 1902 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was no relation to the Horwitz brothers--Shemp (Samuel), Moe (Moses) and Curly (Jerome). Larry suffered a stroke during the "Kook's Tour" in 1970 and never performed again. He passed away on January 24, 1975 at the age of 72.
2. What kind of an accident did Curly suffer as a teenager?

Answer: He shot himself with a gun.

Curly went hunting with a neighbor and accidentally shot himself in the ankle.
3. Which stooge was described by Moe as being "an accomplished ballroom dancer, having a beautiful singing voice, and wavy chestnut brown hair, and a waxed mustache"?

Answer: Curly

These were Moe's words describing Curly from Moe's biography "Moe Howard and The Three Stooges". Moe had his "Spittoon" haircut, Larry's hair was frizzy and wild, and so to fit in, Curly shaved off his hair and mustache.
4. In the mid 1940s, the Stooges packed a New Orleans theater by offering which gimmick?

Answer: An autographed photo of the Stooges

Each person paying admission got a photo that was signed after the show by the Stooges. They signed 30,000 photos and brought in $15,000 that week!
5. What was the only feature made with all the Horwitz brothers, Moe, Shemp, and Curly?

Answer: Hold That Lion

Curly suffered a stroke while filming "Half-Wits Holiday" on May 6, 1946, but came back for a brief gag appearance with his brothers in "Hold That Lion" in 1947.
6. Which Stooge inspired Moe's famous "two-fingered eye gouge" stunt?

Answer: Shemp

Moe said Shemp got mad at Larry while all three were playng cards, jumped up, and poked Larry in the eyes! Moe laughed so hard he fell through a glass door cutting his arm!
7. What was Curly's actual first name?

Answer: Jerome

He was also called "Babe". Curly was born Jerome Lester Horwitz on Oct. 22, 1903 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the youngest of five Horwitz brothers. Cury suffered a stroke while filming the Three Stooges comedy "Half-Wits Holiday" on May 6, 1946. He passed away on January 18, 1952 at the age of 49 after suffering another series of strokes.
8. Shemp died after attending which event?

Answer: A boxing match

Shemp died of a heart attack on November 23, 1955. After attending a boxing match, Shemp got into a friend's car and was telling a joke, when he closed his eyes, and died with a smile on his face. This version of Shemp's death appears in Moe's biography "Moe Howard and The Three Stooges".

A slightly different version of Shemp's death is on the Official Three Stooges website which says Shemp died in a taxi after the match.
9. Moe Howard, the last of the (original) four Stooges, passed away on May 4, 1975.

Answer: True

Curly passed away in January 1952 at the age of 49. Shemp died on November 23, 1955 at the age of 60. Larry died on January 24, 1975 at the age of 72. Moe's death at age 77 brought down the curtain on the last of the four Stooges.
10. Which movie did Moe make a solo appearance in?

Answer: Doctor Death, Seeker of Souls

It was made in 1973. Moe also appeared in "Space Master X7" (1958) "Don't Worry, We'll Think of Something" (1966), and "Senior Prom" (1959). My main source for this quiz was Moe's biography "Moe Howard and the Three Stooges". Thank you for taking my quiz on Moe, Larry, Curly, and Shemp.
