Vin Diesel grew up never knowing his biological father. Vin is half African American and half Italian. He was raised by his stepfather and mother in New York. When he was seven, Vin and his friends broke into a theater but were stopped by a woman who offered to pay them to act as long as they attended practices everyday after school. Vin continued to do theater acting until he went to college. Vin Diesel said later about his past, "I was raised in New York City and raised in the New York City theater world. My father was a theater director and an acting teacher, and it was not uncommon for me to have long discussions about the method and what the various different processes were to finding a character and exploring character and realizing that character."
