Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You may already know that the object of Blackjack is to hold cards that have a total value of 21, or as close to 21 as possible without going over 21, and beat the dealer's total. In the game of Blackjack, how much is an Ace worth?

Answer: Either 1 or 11

All numbered cards are worth their face value, all face cards are worth 10, and the Ace is either worth 1 or 11 (whichever is best for the card holder).
2. Roulette is played by betting on a ball that the dealer spins on a round wheel. When the wheel stops, the ball comes to rest in one of the numbered slots. The object is to guess where the ball is going to land. Each numbered slot is either black or red, with the exception of the "0" and "00" slots. What color are they?

Answer: Green

Red and black numbered slots alternate between even and odd numbers. The numbers seem randomly located on the wheel, but they are really in an order that achieves a certain mathematical balance between red and black, even and odd, and high and low.
3. You put your coin in a slot machine, and you pull the handle. Congratulations - you win $500! The casino will report your winnings to the Internal Revenue Service.

Answer: False

The casino is obligated to report any slot machine winnings of over $1200 in a single spin. If you win anything under that (like $500) or $1200 total in multiple winning spins, it's all yours!
4. Keno is like the lottery. Each Keno ticket has 80 numbers, and you choose as many as you want up to the limit set by the house. Then, you bet on how many numbers you think you'll match to the numbers drawn by the house. In Keno, what does the term "catch" mean?

Answer: How many numbers you actually match

The more numbers you mark on your Keno ticket, the more you have to catch to win. Check the casino's Keno brochure to see the maximum numbers you can choose, and what the payoff is.
5. Most casinos offer betting on sports, also called a "sports book." To get a bigger payoff, you can bet on several sporting events at once, and bet that you'll win all of them. What is this called?

Answer: Parlay

For your parlay bet to win, every one of your individual bets within the parlay must win. If any of your individual bets does not win, then the entire parlay bet is a loss.
6. You might have seen the roped-off area in the casino designated for Baccarat, and thought that you didn't know enough to play such a snooty game. Wrong! It's a simple game of adding up numbers on playing cards that's usually played with 10-15 people. How many decks of cards are used in Baccarat?

Answer: 8

If you're nervous about Baccarat in the roped-off area, then you may want to try Mini-Baccarat. The rules and odds are the same but the minimum bet is usually lower. It's usually played on the regular casino floor on a Blackjack table.
7. In the game of Craps, the 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 are known as what?

Answer: Place numbers

Craps is one of the most difficult casino game to learn, because there are so many options. If you're intimidated, read up on betting the "pass line." This is the most fundamental bet in craps, and most people only bet the "pass line," so it's a good one for the beginner to learn.
8. In racetrack betting, if you bet a horse to "show," what does that horse have to do in order for you to win?

Answer: Finish either first, second or third

If you bet a horse to "win," it (obviously) has to win for you to make money. If you bet to "place," the horse must come in either first or second.
9. You're playing Blackjack and you've already placed your bet. The dealer has already put the initial cards down, and you've realized that you put the wrong chips down and you've bet way too much. What should you do?

Answer: Leave your bet alone

Casino gambling operates by certain rules of etiquette. Never, ever, touch your bet from the time that the first card has been dealt until after the hand is completely over.
10. You are playing Roulette at a table where the last twenty winning numbers have been black. What color should you bet on the next spin?

Answer: It doesn't matter

The odds of any individual number coming up is completely even, no matter what the outcome of previous rounds.
