Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This stone-aged man was voiced by Alan Reed on TV and played by John Goodman and Mark Addy on the silver screen. Which bowling-loving, family-man was this?

Answer: Fred Flintstone

Portraying the day to day life of the average Stone Age family, "The Flintstones" ran for six seasons, between 1960 and 1966. The creative use of animals to replicate modern day comforts made the series worth watching. John Goodman assumed the role of the less than brilliant Fred in 1994's "The Flintstones", which also featured Halle Berry as a seductive bad girl who sees the error of her ways. None of the stars from the 1994 cast signed on for the 2000 sequel, "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas".
2. This sword wielding champion of the oppressed has been played by Guy Williams and Duncan Regehr on TV and by Anthony Hopkins and Antonio Banderas in film. What masked avenger was this?

Answer: Zorro

Set in Spanish speaking California in the 1800s, the story of the wealthy Don who dons a mask and cape to fight for the rights of the people has been told a number of times. Guy Williams played the role in the original series, that ran from 1957 to 1959, and Duncan Regeher took up the sword in the series that ran from 1990 to 1993.
In 1998's "The Mask of Zorro", Anthony Hopkins played an older version of the people's hero, training Antonio Banderas to be his replacement and Banderas continued the role in 2005's less successful "The Legend of Zorro".
3. This scantily clad belle was played by Catherine Bach on television and by Jessica Simpson in the movie. What southern beauty was this?

Answer: Daisy Duke

"The Dukes of Hazzard" ran for seven seasons, between 1979 and 1985 and featured the exploits of three southern cousins who always managed to outwit the law in their car the General Lee. The 2005 same titled movie once again take on, and best, the corrupt local law man, Boss Hogg.
4. This spunky Southern office worker was played by Dolly Parton on the big screen and by Rachel Dennison on the short-lived television series. Which feisty character, fed up with the nonsense from her chauvinistic boss, was this?

Answer: Doralee Rhodes

Disgusted with the behaviour of their sexist boss, three of the ladies from the office imprisoned him in his own home and then ran the business with a great deal more success, in 1980's "9 to 5". Continuing with the adventures of the same three women, the series ran from 1982 to 1983 and then again from 1986 to 1988. Dolly Parton and Rachel Dennison are real life sisters.
5. This middle man, who served as the go between between the owner of a detective agency and his operatives was played on the small screen by David Doyle and on the big screen by Bill Murray. Which angel-loving guy was this?

Answer: John Bosley

In "Charlie's Angels" the three young operatives only ever communicated with their boss over speaker phone. Bosley was their contact, whom they relied on when they needed help. The series ran for five seasons between 1976 and 1981. The 2000 movie of the same name used the same premise, but the angels all had different names.

The 2003 movie "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" had a couple of other Bosleys listed, but no John.
6. This position has been played by Martin Sheen on TV and by a host of actors on the big screen, including (but not limited to) Harrison Ford, Kevin Kline, Billy Bob Thornton, Bill Pullman and Jack Nicholson. What popular position was this?

Answer: The President of the U.S.A.

Martin Sheen played President Jed Bartlett for seven seasons on "The West Wing". Harrison Ford took a shot at terrorism in "Air Force One" (1997), and Kevin Kline brought a little honesty to the position in "Dave" (1993). Billy Bob Thornton philandered his way through the role in "Love Actually" (2003), while Bill Pullman and Jack Nicholson both played presidents dealing with alien invasions in 1996 in "Independence Day" and "Mars Attacks!" respectively.
7. This perennial favourite has been played by many actors over the years. Most notably, Alistair Sim and Michael Caine have played him on big screen, while George C. Scott, Patrick Stewart and Kelsey Grammer have taken on the roles in made-for TV movies. Which perennial winter favourite was this?

Answer: Ebenezer Scrooge

Charles Dickens' wonderful story "A Christmas Carol", about a money clenching, miserable, old man's encounter with the ghosts of Christmas has been made so many times, it's impossible to list every version. My personal favourite version has always been the 1951 one that starred Alistair Sim, although Michael Caine's Scrooge in 1992 "A Muppet Christmas Carol" has always been fun too.

In made-for-TV versions, George C. Scott played the role in 1984, Patrick Stewart in 1999, and Kelsey Grammar acted in the musical version from 2004.
8. This cool, classy thief was played by Roger Moore on the television series, and by Val Kilmer on the big screen. Which dashing young man was this?

Answer: Simon Templar

"The Saint" ran for six seasons, between 1962 and 1969, and featured a very likeable thief who only stole from the bad guys. He usually succeeded in getting them arrested while he was at it. Instead of giving his stolen gains to the poor though, he did keep them for himself.

The 1997 movie of the same name painted a somewhat less altruistic thief, who wasn't as discriminating about who he stole from.
9. This young crime fighter was given voice by Paul Soles, Christopher Daniel Barnes and Ted Schwarz in three different animated series, and played live action by Tobey Maguire on the big screen. What character boasted this super identity?

Answer: Peter Parker

Among its many incarnations, "Spider-Man" has been featured in animated series from 1967 to 1970 (Paul Soles), from 1981 to 1987 (Ted Schwartz) and from 1994 to 1998 (Christopher Daniel Barnes). Tobey Maguire has played the web-swinger in "Spider-Man" movies in 2002, 2004 and 2007.
10. This wholesome blonde was played by Maureen McCormick on the TV show, and by Christine Taylor in the movie. Who was this perfect teen, whose nose was flattened by a football?

Answer: Marcia Brady

Depicting the idealized union of a large, blended family (he had three boys, she had three girls) "The Brady Bunch" ran for five seasons between 1969 and 1974. The same titled movie, released in 1995 spoofed the wholesomeness of the 70's family by contrasting it with a more modern, cynical society. This was followed by a not as successful sequel, "A Very Brady Sequel" (1996).
