Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which city served as the home for "SummerSlam" 1989?

Answer: East Rutherford, New Jersey

The second annual "SummerSlam" was hosted in East Rutherford, New Jersey on August 28, 1989 at the Meadowlands Arena in front of 20,000 fans.
2. Before the Pay Per View commenced, there was a Dark Match that had taken place.

Answer: True

Indeed there was, and in this one, Dino Bravo scored a victory over Koko B. Ware. In case you're not familiar as to what a Dark Match is, it's a match that is NOT televised and only available to be seen by the fans at the actual event, for purposes such as to warm up the crowd.
3. Who were the WWE World Tag Team Champions walking into "SummerSlam" 1989?

Answer: The Brain Busters

The then-WWE World Tag Team Champions The Brain Busters, which consisted of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard, squared off against The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart), in a non-title match in which the WWE World Tag Team Champions defeated The Hart Foundation after Arn pinned Bret after delivering a "Diving Elbow Drop" from the middle rope. Bobby "The Brain" Heenan accompanied The Brain Busters to ringside for the bout.

By the end of the night, this had become the longest match of "SummerSlam" 1989.
4. In the first Singles Match of the night, Dusty Rhodes faced off against The Honky Tonk Man. Who was at ringside in the corner of The Honky Tonk Man?

Answer: Jimmy Hart

In the match, Dusty Rhodes defeated The Honky Tonk Man despite the odds placed upon him. After dodging a guitar shot directly to the head courtesy of Jimmy Hart (who ended up accidentally hitting Honky Tonk Man), Rhodes connected to Honky Tonk Man with a "Bionic Elbow", followed by the pin fall thus becoming the winner of the bout.
5. In another Singles Match, Mr. Perfect emerged victorious. Who was his opponent?

Answer: Red Rooster

This match was the only one in which a manager was NOT involved. In the match itself, Mr. Perfect hit the "Perfect Plex" in a little over three minutes to get the pin fall and the victory over Red Rooster.
6. Which team scored the victory in the first of two Six-Man Tag Team Matches?

Answer: Rick Martel and The Fabulous Rougeaus

Despite a somewhat controversial decision, Rick Martel and The Fabulous Rougeaus walked away the victors. The "controversial decision" was Marty Jannetty, the man who was not legal, was pinned with Shawn Michaels being the actual legal man.
7. Who did Ultimate Warrior defeat in order to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship?

Answer: "Ravishing" Rick Rude

This marks the second consecutive time in a row in which the WWE Intercontinental Championship was defended FIRST at a "SummerSlam", along with Ultimate Warrior winning the belt twice in a row. Along ringside in the corner of Rick Rude was Bobby Heenan, who was making his second appearance in the night as a manager.
8. After the WWE Intercontinental Championship Match, there was one match left until the second Six-Man Tag Team Match.

Answer: False

It came immediately afterwards, and the second Six-Man Tag Team Match saw "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and Demolition (Ax and Smash) defeat Andre the Giant and The Twin Towers when Smash pinned Akeem after Jim, despite the disqualification rule being in tact, blatantly hit Akeem in the head with his infamous 2x4.
9. Approximately how much time did the two penultimate matches of "SummerSlam" 1989 culminate to? (Hercules vs. Greg "The Hammer" Valentine & Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka vs. "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase)

Answer: 10 minutes

10 minutes it was, 9 minutes and 35 seconds to be exact. In chronological order, Hercules defeated Greg "The Hammer" Valentine via a disqualification which was called upon by guest ring announcer Ronnie Garvin after witnessing Valentine's cheating tactics (pinning Hercules with feet on the ropes), thus reversing the initial decision into a disqualification and Ted "Million Dollar Man" DiBiase, with Virgil at ringside, defeated Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka via a count-out.
10. The final match of the night was, a Tag Team Match which had "Macho Man" Randy Savage and Zeus in one corner (with Sensational Sherri) and Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake in the other (with Miss Elizabeth). Who scored the pin fall in this match?

Answer: Hulk Hogan

The team of then-WWE Champion Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake walked away the victors after Hogan hit a "Leg Drop" on Zeus, and scoring the pin fall afterwards. This marked Hulk Hogan's second consecutive victory at the event, for which, to this day (and putting his now announced retirement from the WWE into consideration), is just one of his many victories for his undefeated streak at the event.
