1. In the early stages of the American Revolutionary War, who was fighting against whom?

Answer: American colonists against Britain

Yes, those rough and tumble colonists that later formed the United States fought the redcoats of Britain. Later in the Revolutionary War, France, Spain and the Netherlands also fought against Britain.
2. Who authored the American Declaration of Independence?

Answer: Thomas Jefferson

John Hancock was the one that signed his name the largest on this document claiming that King George III should be able to read it clearest of all. John Adams helped to inspire Thomas Jefferson to write it. George Washington became the first President of the United States.
3. Who is the only U.S. President to serve for three consecutive terms?

Answer: Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Franklin Delano Roosevelt, or FDR as he is often called, is the only President to serve for three consecutive terms: in fact he was elected to a fourth term, but died soon after his last re-election. Grover Cleveland served two non-consecutive terms as President. James Madison is referred to as the "Father of the Constitution" because he wrote the document that set the basis for the Constitution.
4. On what date was the American Declaration of Independence adopted?

Answer: July 4, 1776

Christmas of 2013 I obviously just made up, 9/11 was, of course, the day the twin towers fell, and we never looked at commercial air travel the same again afterwards. November 10, 1775 was when the United States Marine Corps was formed; since I'm a Marine I decided to put that one in there.
5. Who was George Washington's Vice President and the second President of the United States?

Answer: John Adams

Thomas Jefferson not only authored the Declaration of Independence, but also served as this country's first Secretary of State under George Washington, in addition to serving as John Adams' Vice President before becoming the third President of the United States.
6. Whom did the United States fight in the War of 1812?

Answer: Britain

This war started because Britain kept attacking U.S. trade vessels and taking them. Obviously that began to really hurt the fragile economy of the U.S., since it was still trying recover economically and socially from the Revolutionary War since there were still plenty of people that were still loyal to Britain that lived in the colonies.
7. From whom did the United States purchase the Louisiana territory?

Answer: Napoleon I of France

This is better known as the Louisiana Purchase and it included that states that are known today as Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, most of Kansas, about half of Colorado, most of Wyoming, Montana, the Dakotas, Iowa, Missouri, the southern half of Minnesota, and Nebraska. The U.S. purchased the whole territory for a cool $15 million.
8. Who was the brave general that led the American colonists during the Revolutionary War?

Answer: George Washington

George Washington also was unanimously selected as head of the first Continental Congress of 1774 which was held in Philadelphia. Though a very smart man and has his face on the hundred dollar bill, Benjamin Franklin was never elected President. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were the second and third U.S. Presidents respectively.
9. Which country was responsible for the bombing at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941?

Answer: Japan

This act by the Japanese is what caused the United States to jump into the fray of World War II. The U.S. bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Germany was battling Britain among other European countries and the U.S. at the same time the U.S. was battling Japan.

The U.S.S.R. (Russia) observed Hitler's actions and didn't participate in the fighting until Hitler's troops invaded Russia in June 1941.
10. From which country did the U.S. purchase Florida?

Answer: Spain

The U.S. purchased Florida through a treaty with Spain known as the Adams-Onis Treaty of 1819.
