Answer: Fisher

Fisher, inducted into the United States Marine Corps Sports Hall of Fame in 2009, was both a sporting shooter and an instructor in the U.S Navy. He was a member of the team that represented the USA in 1920 Olympics where he won three gold medals, and again in 1924, when he garnered two further gold.

Answer: Murray Rose

Iain Murray Rose was born in the UK, but came to Australia during his first year due to the breakout of war. He achieved four gold medals during his career, as well as a silver and a bronze. He also enjoyed success as a competitor in the Commonwealth Games. The Redleaf Pool, frequented by Murray Rose, was renamed Murray Rose Pool in his honour in 2012, the same year of his death.

He has been awarded the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year on four occasions, and has held and broken many records during his career. He posed in his signature 'lightning' bolt "To Di World" (to the world) after each win, harking back to his childhood's involvement in dancehall music.

Contemporary Paavo Nurmi, the "Flying Finn" won three gold medals at the Antwerp games, but Albert Hill's haul was not to be sneezed at. Apart from the two gold medals, he also achieved silver in in the 3000m team race. Hill didn't continue competing; once he completed his Olympic campaign, he went back to being a railway ticket collector. He did, however, maintain an interest in running, coaching Sydney Wooderson, who broke the mile world record in 1937.

She was also extremely successful in successive World Championships. Her World Cup debut was in 1999, and she retired from alpine competition in 2017. Her career blossomed when she changed coaches to work with Andrea Massi in 2008.

Michelle Smith achieved four medals in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, at that time becoming Ireland's most decorated Olympian. She also set series of records in the Irish swimming scene. Her career was marred, however, by allegations of doping, for which she was never found guilty; however, she was later found guilty of urine tampering and the ban for that effectively ended her swimming career.

Answer: Heinz Frei

Heinz Frei was an avid cross-country runner who snapped his spinal cord when he missed his footing and landed on a rock ledge during training. He returned to competitive sport two years later in a wheelchair; he quickly gained a deserved reputation for being a fierce competitor. He has won 11 gold medals at four summer and five winter Games. His motto is "Never give up in a race or in life."

Born in the second largest city in the Ukraine, Tamara Press grew up in Samarkand and represented the Soviet Union in the Olympic Games. Her strengths were in discus and shot put, winning three gold and one silver medals at the 1960 and 1964 Olympics. Her feats garnered the Order of Lenin award in 1960, the Order of the Badge of Honour in 1964 and Order of Friendship in 1997.
