Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Hello, I am a priest's wife! My husband and I thought we were too old for kids, but one day when he was doing his job in the temple, an angel appeared and said we would have a son. Since my husband didn't believe him, the angel took away his ability to speak until our baby was born. I followed the angel's instructions and named him John. Who am I?

Answer: Elizabeth

My name is Elizabeth and I am the mother of John the Baptist. Zechariah, my husband, was shocked when he came out of the temple. We all tried to figure out what he was trying to say, but he could not speak. He told me later at home what the angel said. Just as God had said, we had a son nine months later.

The people wanted us to name him after someone in our family, as was the tradition. However, I named him John, just like the angel had instructed. They handed a writing pad to my husband to see if he would say something different.

When he wrote, "His name is John", God opened up his mouth and he could speak again. He and I both gave praise to God. Our boy became a prophet and told other people about the Messiah that was coming! (Luke 1:1-24)
2. An angel appeared to me while I was engaged to marry Joseph. He told me that I was special and would conceive a child by the Holy Spirit. He told me my son would take away the sins of our people. Who am I?

Answer: Mary

An angel named Gabriel appeared to me and told me that I would have a child by God. I was excited and scared. I was engaged to Joseph, who had questions when I became pregnant. However the angel appeared to him also and told him that this child was special and would save our people. We had to make a trip the night our son was born.

The only place we could find was a barn. We named him Jesus, as the angel had said. We were honored and surprised when shepherds came to worship him and the angels sang in the sky. Later wise men came bring gold and gifts that helped us raise Jesus. Jesus worked with my husband Joseph and learned how to be a carpenter.

He surprised us with all the things he knew. I continued to care for him even after he was a grown man. (Luke 1:26-35)
3. My son-in-law was one of the first disciples of Jesus. I got very sick and he brought Jesus to pray for me. Jesus prayed and I was healed immediately! My son-in-law followed Jesus everywhere and once Jesus called him a "rock", a man of strength who would build his church. Who am I?

Answer: Peter's Mother-in-Law

When Peter and Jesus came to visit my house with the disciples, I was very sick. I had a high fever, and in those days that was very dangerous. (Some people died from being that ill.) However Jesus prayed for me and I was instantly better. I jumped to my feet and started fixing those boys some food. (You know, men are always hungry after a long day's work.) I was so happy!(Matthew 8:14)

Peter continued to follow Jesus, and later became a great apostle! I was so proud of him. I may have never gotten to see most of the things Jesus did in my life had he not healed me.
4. The Bible does not give my name, but I was a determined lady who needed a miracle. When Jesus passed by in the crowd, I had faith that if I could touch his robe, I could be healed. Who am I?

Answer: The woman with the issue of blood.

I had spent all my money trying to find a cure for the health issue I had. I was losing blood and no one could fix it. Then I heard about Jesus! I thought to myself, "If only I could touch his robe, I could be healed!". When I saw Jesus in the crowd, I had to push my way through tons of people but I reached out an touched his robe. "Who touched me?," he said. I told him it was me.

He told me because of my faith, I was healed. (Mark 5:21-34)
5. I was not the mother of Jesus, but I was also someone special. I sat at Jesus' feet when he came to my brother's house and listened to everything he said. There were times when I made my sister very angry because I was not in the kitchen helping her. Who am I?

Answer: Mary, Lazarus' sister

My name is Mary, and I'm the sister of Lazarus. Lazarus was a very dear friend of Jesus, so Jesus came to visit us a lot. Martha yelled at me for not helping her in the kitchen, but I wanted to sit and learn. Jesus told Martha she was focused on the wrong things and that what I wanted was good. He let me stay.
(Luke 10:39)

When my brother died, Jesus was late to the funeral. Martha and I were both upset and told Jesus he should have come sooner. Jesus wept, then went up to the tomb and told Lazarus to come out. My heart jumped in fear and in excitement when my brother came out! We untied him as fast as we could. Jesus was smiling because we had our brother and friend back. (John 11)
6. I am a great ruler's wife. My husband and I were baffled when the Jews brought Jesus to us, telling us to crucify him! We saw that this man had done nothing wrong. I tried to save Jesus from this evil crowd. I convinced my husband to offer the Jews a choice between a murderer and an innocent man. Who am I?

Answer: Pontius Pilate's wife

My name is Claudia, although in scripture I am more well known as Pontius Pilate's wife. I had terrible nightmares before all the madness of Calvary. When I saw Jesus I saw my nightmares become real before my very eyes. He was a righteous man but the Jewish leaders wanted to kill him in the worst way possible, crucifixion. I begged my husband not to give in to them and he came up with an idea.

At Passover time we always free one prisoner, so we gave them a choice between a murderer and Jesus. To our horror, they chose the murderer and forced my husband to put Jesus on the cross. (Matthew 27:19)
7. I was one of the first ladies in the church in Jerusalem. Many people were sad when I passed away, but were even more shocked when Peter prayed for me and I came back to life. Who am I?

Answer: Dorcas

I am Dorcas. I was one of the first ladies in the first church and I helped the apostles and believers with many of the things that they needed. One day I got very sick and died. The disciples and other Christians cleaned me up and called for Peter to come right away.

When Peter came, he saw me there, looking as if I was sleeping. He sent the other people away and prayed for me. Then he took me by the hand and told me "Tabitha, arise!" (Dorcas was also known as Tabitha.) Instantly, life came back into me and I was healed. People were shocked when Peter came out of the room with me alive! Word spread to the rest of the Jews and everyone who heard it was amazed. (Acts 9:36-42)
8. I was a young lady when God saved Peter from prison! I had to convince the believers who were praying that Peter was at the door when he showed up at our prayer meeting. Who am I?

Answer: Rhoda

My name is Rhoda. We were having a prayer meeting and I was in charge of answering the door. When I opened it, I screamed in shock and ran to tell the other believers. They thought I saw Peter's ghost. I had to insist that I saw Peter and he was standing outside.

When Peter came in he answered everyone's questions about how in the world he got there. He was in prison when an angel came and opened the prison doors. We gave praise and thanks to God for answered prayer! (Acts 12)
9. My husband Aquila and I were close friends to the apostle Paul. Paul trusted me to manage one of his churches and give them his letters. I had never met Jesus but I loved sharing the gospel just as Paul had shared it with us. Who am I?

Answer: Priscilla

It is a surprise to many that a female helped start one of Paul's churches. Paul brought the gospel to us in Corinth on one of his missionary journeys and worked for us as a tent maker. My husband and I both became strong in our faith, but I did more of the leadership in the church Paul left behind. I gave the church Paul's letters and once even visited him in Rome when he was in prison.

He gave us a heartfelt goodbye when he knew he was going to die for his faith. We carried on the message and continued to teach everyone we could about Jesus after he passed away. (Acts 18:1-3, Acts 18: 18-26, Romans 16, 1 Corinthians 16:19, 2 Timothy 4:19)
10. My name is Lois, and I was the grandmother of a very special young man. I am mentioned in the Bible in the letters Paul gave to my grandson. He assisted the apostle Paul and even has two books of the Bible named after him. Who is my grandson?

Answer: Timothy

I am the grandmother of Timothy. Yes that's right, the same Timothy to whom Paul wrote two books of the Bible. I lived in Lystra with my daughter and grandson. Before I was a Christian, I was a very devoted Jew who raised my family with the laws Moses had given. Christianity was still a very new thing and we were surrounded by the idols of the Greeks and Romans. I wanted my family to be strong and please the true God of Israel.

The faith of Timothy's mother and me influenced Timothy to become a Christian.

He became a very big help to Paul and even became a pastor of churches. (2 Timothy 1:5)
