Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Using only ASDFGHJKL, find a word meaning to hurry somewhere.

Answer: dash

Dash can also mean a small quantity in cooking (a dash of vinegar), a punctuation mark (here's an example - white), a mild curse (Dash it!) and other meanings.
2. Using only ASDFGHJKL, find a word for a substance made using sand. (Note: one of the letters will need to be used twice.)

Answer: glass

Glass has been around for centuries, used mainly in windows and drinking utensils. And don't forget 'glasses' (spectacles) and other lens-using instruments.
3. Using only ASDFGHJKL, find a word meaning 'to whip'.

Answer: lash

A punishment, not used much these days in most countries, consisted of 50 lashes possibly with a whip called a cat o' nine tails. Ouch!
4. Using only ASDFGHJKL, find a word for the # key on a telephone. (Note: one of the letters will need to be used twice.)

Answer: hash

Apart from this, hash can also be a food item, as in 'hash browns', and to make a mess of something (hope I don't make a 'hash' of this quiz).
5. Using only ASDFGHJKL, find a word for a type jacket perhaps worn by SWAT team members.

Answer: flak

Flak jackets are designed to protect the wearer. Flak was the shrapnel from exploding shells in anti-aircraft fire. You can also 'cop the flak' if you do something wrong and are 'caught out'. So behave! :-)
6. Using only ASDFGHJKL, find a word for a sudden burst of light.

Answer: flash

'A flash of light' or a 'flashlight' represent this use. If you 'flash a badge', you show it briefly.
7. Using only ASDFGHJKL, find a word for a keyboard key preceded by 'back' or 'forward'. (Note: one of the letters will need to be used twice.)

Answer: slash

Backslash (\) and forward slash (/) are these keys. Slash can also be used to slice with a knife or sword.
8. Using only ASDFGHJKL, find a word for something sometimes presented to the winner. (Note: one of the letters will need to be used twice.)

Answer: sash

The 'Winner's sash' is a band of shiny cloth worn over the shoulder. We can also have a window sash.
9. Using only ASDFGHJKL, find a word for one of the three states of matter.

Answer: gas

The three states in which matter usually exists are solid (eg ice), liquid (eg water) and gas (eg water vapour). A change of temperature can cause a change of state.
10. Using only ASDFGHJKL, find a word for something that is popular, usually for a short while.

Answer: fad

Some of the fads over the years have included pet rocks, hula hoops, lava lamps, yoyos, Rubik's Cube and many more. Bet you don't have one now! :-)
