In the "Tale of the Three Brothers" the three Peverell brothers come to a river and are forced to use their wands to build a bridge over it. While crossing the bridge Death appears. He grants each of the brothers a wish. Antioch wished for a wand that could never lose for its master; the Elder Wand was then formed by Death. Cadmus wished for a stone that could resurrect the dead, thus the Resurrection Stone was created. Ignotus wished for something that could hide him from Death. Death then gave Ignotus his own Cloak of Invisibility. Eventually Death found and killed Antioch and Cadmus Peverell. Death then searched many years, but could not find Ignotus Peverell. When Ignotus grew old he took off his cloak and Death welcomed him as a friend.

Professor Quirinus Quirrell tried to steal it, but Harry saved it in the climatic ending of the first book. Nicholas died when he was six hundred and sixty six years old and his wife died aged six hundred and fifty eight years old.

Harry takes Ron over to Professor Horace Slughorn's office to obtain an antidote. Slughorn gives Ron the antidote and he's well. Before leaving, Professor Slughorn offers Ron and Harry a sip of mead. Ron is the first to take the sip and ends up being poisoned. Harry rushes to the cabinets in the room and gets a bezoar. Harry then thrusts the bezoar down Ron's throat, and Ron is cured. Later it is revealed that the mead was intended for Albus Dumbledore.
