Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I can fix the leak in your bathroom.

Answer: Plumber

A plumber is one who fixes pipes and other leaks in the bathroom or kitchen. The word plumber is taken from "plumbum", which is the Latin word for lead, a metal which was originally used to make water pipes before it was found to be toxic to human beings. A famous plumber in popular culture is the video game character Mario, and his brother, Luigi.
2. I will show you how to do your ABC's.

Answer: Teacher

Everyone is familiar with a teacher. Right from kindergarten to high school and university, teachers help us learn different subjects. In the lower grades, a single teacher may teach many different subjects. At higher levels, we tend to have specialized teachers for each subject.
3. I can clean the streets for you.

Answer: Sweeper

Though this job is now done by machines in most parts of the world, there are still places where sweepers are employed to clean the streets. They generally use a long handled broom to clean the dirt off the roads. The rubbish is then collected in bins and taken away to sanitation centres.
4. I can give you a good cut of meat.

Answer: Butcher

A butcher is someone who slaughters an animal and then cuts the meat for sale. The meat can be sold wholesale to large restaurants or to individual buyers at shops. It requires a specialized skill and in most countries, butchers have to undergo training and certification before they can work.
5. I can entertain you at the circus.

Answer: Juggler

A juggler is often seen in a circus, though you may also come across one in a crowded market square, trying to earn some money while entertaining people. They typically demonstrate their skill of being able to toss three or more objects at a time without dropping any. Balls are used most often, though some more advanced shows can also use more dangerous objects like swords.
6. I can help you construct a house.

Answer: Builder

A builder is one who helps to construct a house or multi-storeyed building. The term builder can be used for the labourer or construction worker who actually does the physical work. However, it is also used for the person who manages the site and all operations during the construction. A good example is "Bob the Builder" from the cartoon show of the same name.
7. I can sell you pretty little trinkets.

Answer: Peddler

A peddler is someone who goes door-to-door selling objects of low value. The origin of the word peddler is not known with certainty but it is often considered to be derived from the Latin word "pied" which means foot, as the peddlers went around walking to sell their wares.
8. I can help you herd cattle.

Answer: Rancher

A rancher is one who operates a large ranch which could hold large herds of cattle or horses. The animals are usually raised as livestock to be sold for their meat or wool, or in the case of horses, to compete in rodeos. The terms ranch and rancher are most commonly used in North America.

These ranches form the backdrop for movies classified as being within the "Western" or "Cowboy" genre.
9. I can protect the country for you.

Answer: Soldier

A soldier is someone who helps to protect the country. While soldier is the general term, there are also specific ranks within the army based on skill, expertise and seniority. In some countries like Israel, it is compulsory for all young men and women to spend few years working within the army. In other countries like the UK, joining the army is voluntary.
10. I can mend your shoes for you.

Answer: Cobbler

In earlier times, a shoemaker was someone who made new shoes, while a cobbler mended shoes. Over time, the word cobbler has come to sometimes be used also for those who make shoes. In fairy tales, elves are often depicted as cobblers probably stemming from the Grimm Brothers' story called "The Elves and the Shoemaker" where elves helped the poor old shoemaker to make new shoes.
