Shift the Ape and Puzzle the Donkey lived near the pool in western Narnia. When they found the lion-skin, Shift put into action the events which were to lead to the worst crisis ever to face Narnia.

No matter how long anyone from our world spends in Narnia, it would take no time at all, and there appeared to be no logic to the passing of time between (compare the year spent between 'The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe' and 'Prince Caspian' being hundreds of years, yet the gap between 'Prince Caspian' and 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader' was just a matter of a few years.) In this case, King Tirian was seventh in descent from King Rilian, the lost Prince of 'The Silver Chair'.

When Poggin the Dwarf joined them the food was better, but little could be done about the availability of different liquid refreshment.

This story was to enforce Shift's story of Tirian being against Aslan, and also that Aslan would not show himself again, as he was so angry; without Puzzle he had no 'lion' to show.

He also told how King Gale (ninth in descent from King Frank) delivered the Lone Islanders from a dragon and thus received the Lone Islands as part of the royal lands of Narnia for all time.

In the Calormen army the common soldiers called the officers 'My Master', but the officers call the senior officers 'My Father'.

Rishda had taken over from Shift as the brains behind the operation, using Shift and Puzzle for his own purposes. When Ginger joined the team, he and Rishda worked together. Now, with Ginger out of the picture (he saw Tash and lost his Talking Beast status), Rishda tried to save his position as leader against the attack of King Tirian and his Narnians.

Poggin opened the door on Tirian's orders, and Shift was thrown in. There was a blinding light and awful noises, and then nothing. This scared the frightened Narnians even more, and even startled Rishda Tarkaan, who did not believe in either Aslan or Tash.

Jewel and Puzzle (the Unicorn and the Donkey) were deployed to Tirian's right while Jill, the Boar and the Bear were to the left. He stood in the centre with Eustace on his right and Poggin on his left, the Dogs behind, the Eagle (Farsight) hovering above and the gnawers (Mice and Squirrels) were sent down the hill to release the Horses.

Jewel and Eustace were angry when they saw this, and Jill was tearful. Tirian urged Jewel not to retaliate, and then said 'And peace, Eustace. Do not scold. No warrior scolds. Courteous words or else hard knocks are his only language.'

Eustace had already been thown into the Stable, and it looked as if the Calormenes, who had rallied to the drum call, would win the battle and they would all end up being thrown in there. Jewel was comforting Jill when he said this.

Knowing he would end up in the Stable anyway, Tirian grabbed him by the belt and jumped into the Stable with him. No sooner had he done so than Tash came and demanded to know why Rishda had called him to Narnia. When the Tarkaan did not answer, he grabbed Rishda - taking him away when the High King Peter told him to leave.

Peter, the High King, introduced the Lady Polly, the Lord Digory, King Edmund and Queen Lucy.

'A brightness flashed behind them. All turned. Tirian turned last because he was afraid. There stood his heart's desire, huge and real, the golden Lion, Aslan himself, and already the others were kneeling in a circle round his forepaws and burying their hands and faces in his mane as he stooped his great head to touch them with his tongue.

Then he fixed his eyes upon Tirian, and Tirian came near, trembling, and flung himself at the Lion's feet, and the Lion kissed him and said, "Well done, last of the Kings of Narnia who stood firm at the darkest hour."'

After the seas came over the land, the sun destroyed the moon, then Father Time squeezed the sun. The temperature suddenly dropped and Aslan told Peter to shut the door.

It was Edmund who spotted Mount Pire. Although it was very like, it was different - this was the real Narnia, of which the Narnia they knew was just a copy.

Aslan was concerned that Peter, Edmund, Lucy, Eustace and Jill were not as happy as he meant them to be. When they said that they were expecting to be sent back as they had in the past, he told them that they were, as they said in the shadowlands, dead, and would remain. "The dream is ended: this is the morning."
