Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1924 a group of miners reported being attacked by a group of creatures, now known as bigfoot. The attack occurred in "Ape Canyon". What state was "Ape Canyon" located in?

Answer: Washington

The miners reported that a large group of bigfoot creatures tried breaking into their cabin during the night, apparently to get to the miners. In 1950 a man named Jim Carter was skiing with a group in the area, but left the group on his own to film a documentary. Later, when he didn't return, the rest of the group went looking for him. Following the trail his skis had made, the group couldn't believe the risks that he had taken, making daring jumps that no experienced skiier would have ever attempted.

They surmised the only possible explaination is that Mr. Carter was running from something in an attempt to save his own life. One of the group members stated that he felt as though he had been watched by someone or something since he came into the area. Mr. Carter was never seen again.

In 1980 Ape Canyon was reportedly destroyed by the eruption of Mount St. Helens.
2. In 2002 the name of this man appeared in newspaper headlines across the country. Some touted that with his death, bigfoot had died too. Who was this man?

Answer: Ray Wallace

In 2002, the family of Ray Wallace, announced that he had in fact created the alleged bigfoot tracks, that appeared in a logging camp in 1958. It was due to the size of these tracks, that the term "Bigfoot" was coined. Stories of a large hairy creature whose description is that which we call bigfoot now, date back long before the white man ever set foot in the western part of North America.
3. The creature we know as Bigfoot is reported in many other countries around the world. In those countries he's usually known by a different name. What name is he known by in Australia?

Answer: Yowie

According to the Yowie Hunters website, when the white man first came to Australia in the late 1700s, the Aborigines told them stories of an apelike man that lived in their forests. The descriptions pretty much coincide with our description of Bigfoot. The site also claims that there have been over 10,000 sightings of the Yowie in Australia.
4. Probably the most famous piece of film footage of an alleged bigfoot, was shot in Northern California in 1967. What were the last names of the two men involved in the filming of this creature?

Answer: Patterson-Gimlin

In the fall of 1967 Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin were riding their horses along Bluff Creek in Northern California when an alleged bigfoot creature made it's appearance. Most of us have either seen copies of this footage, or the famous still shot that has adorned posters, or in many books and magazines.

In 1972 Roger Patterson died from cancer, a disease he had battled with for a number of years. Robert Gimlin is still alive, and has made appearances at bigfoot conventions around the country.

Answer: Bob Hieronymus

To date, nobody has been able to produce a suit that matches what we see in the Patterson-Gimlin film.
6. The name "Sasquatch" probably originated from the word "Sesqec" from the language of the people of which First Nation in Western Canada?

7. When the subject of possible ancestors of bigfoot comes up, which animal is most commonly suggested?

Answer: Gigantopithecus

Specifically Gigantopithecus Blackii is most often suggested as the ancestor. Scientists have come up with a description of its size and shape based strictly upon a few handfuls of teeth and several partial jawbones. There are no known complete skeletons in existence.
8. In 1987 the film, "Harry and the Hendersons" hit the big screen. Harry was a fictional bigfoot featured in this film. who played Harry on the big screen?

Answer: Kevin Peter Hall

When "Harry and the Hendersons" moved to television, the character of Harry was played by two other actors. From 1991-1992 it was Dawan Scott, and from 1992-1993 it was Brian Steele. The original Harry from the movie, Kevin Peter Hall, died in 1991 from aids he contracted through a blood transfusion after a bad car accident.
9. According to the largest online database of bigfoot sightings, on the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization's website, which is the only US state not to have any bigfoot reports?

Answer: Hawaii

Hawaii may not have any bigfoot, but they do have their own strange beings, the Menehunes. They are described as being little people who are very gifted craftsmen.

Some people have suggested that this may have been a young sasquatch. What name was given to the creature that was captured?
