Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Way back in the year 1982, pop star Prince informed everyone that he would "party like it's..." what year?

Answer: 1999

"1999" was the title track of the 1982 album that carried the same name. The song did not break the top 40 in either the USA or the UK on its first release, but after Prince achieved success with "Little Red Corvette" (off the same album), the song "1999" was re-promoted. The second time around it fared better, reaching number 12 in the USA and number 25 in the UK.
2. What media conglomerate is represented on the New York Stock Exchange as TWX?

Answer: Time Warner

Tim Warner was formed by the joining of two companies: Warner Communications, Inc. and Time Inc. in 1990. Headquartered in New York City, the company's many subsidiaries include such well-known names as New Line Cinema, HBO, Warner Bros., CNN, DC Comics, and Castle Rock Entertainment.

In the year 2000, AOL purchased Time Warner and the company name was changed to AOL Time Warner, Inc. By the year 2003, however, poor financial returns led to the dropping of 'AOL' from the company name, returning it to simply Time Warner once again.
3. What is the name of Earth, Wind & Fire's seventh album, which featured the songs "Getaway", "Saturday Nite" and "On Your Face"?

Answer: Spirit

"Spirit" was released by Earth, Wind & Fire in 1976, reaching number two on both the Billboard Pop Chart and the R&B Albums Chart. In addition to the album's chart success, it was also nominated for Favorite Soul/R&B Album at the American Music Awards.
4. Dr. Dale _____ was voted the 2009 "Sports Chiropractor of the Year" by the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians. Which name fills in the blank?

Answer: Buchberger

Dr. Buchberger is the author of "The Buchberger-12"; a series of 12 exercises designed to strengthen the rotator cuff and scapular stabilizing muscles of the shoulder. He has also developed "The Shoulder Made Simple", a course for chiropractors, physiotherapists, osteopaths, athletic therapists, kinesiologists, and registered massage therapists on the management of selected shoulder pathologies.
5. What song was written by Hoagy Carmichael in 1930 for his sister, whose name graces the title?

Answer: Georgia on My Mind

"Georgia on My Mind" was first recorded on September 15, 1930 by Carmichael and his Orchestra, but perhaps better known today is the cover done in 1950 by Ray Charles. Although written for his sister Georgia, the song has come to be associated with the state of Georgia, to the point that it was adopted as the state song in 1979.
6. Of the different types of north that must be considered when using a map and compass, which one points to the physical location of the North Pole?

Answer: True north

True north is also called geodetic north, and is the point at which the earth rotates on its axis in the northern hemisphere. Grid north will only correspond with the given map that you are referring to, and magnetic north will slowly change over time, depending on the magnetic field being produced by the Earth's core. Celestial north points to the star Polaris, which is within one degree of Earth's axis of rotation.
7. When David inherited the family business upon his father Kenneth's death in 2006, he immediately became the richest man in Canada at the time. Known as the Third Baron ___ of Fleet, what name fills in the blank?

Answer: Thomson

David Thomson of Toronto, Ontario, Canada has headed his family company Thomson Reuters (Reuters was acquired in 2002). According to the 2011 "Forbes" list of the richest billionaires in the world, David Thomson's net worth was $23 billion, putting him at number 17 on the global list.
8. Which Canadian province was originally nicknamed "The Postage Stamp Province" due to its small size and rectangular shape when it joined Confederation in 1870?

Answer: Manitoba

When Manitoba originally joined Confederation, the province was only about 1/18th of the size that it became. Its borders were expanded in 1881 to approximately five times its original size, and then again in 1912 it expanded to include the northern half of the province up to the 60th parallel.

The size of Manitoba in 1870 was approximately 130 miles wide from east to west and 110 miles from north to south.
9. What was the last name of the actress Cheryl who played the part of Kris Munroe in the 1970s show "Charlie's Angels"?

Answer: Ladd

Cheryl Ladd performed in 87 episodes of "Charlie's Angels" between 1977 and 1981. Her career continued following that series primarily in television, although she did act in some movies, such as "Millennium" (1989), "Poison Ivy" (1992), "A Dog of Flanders" (1999), and "Baggage" (2008).
