It was also the site of the first Parliament of Australia from 1901 until 1927 then Canberra became the national capital. It is one of the few great exhibition halls that survives from the nineteenth century. Flinders Street Station, the Shrine of Remembrance and Young and Jacksons are all Melbourne landmarks.
6. What is the title of the famous painting that hangs in Young and Jacksons hotel?

Answer: Chloe

Chloe was painted by Jules-Joseph Lefebvre and exhibited at the Paris Salon in the 1870s. The painting came to Australian via Dr Thomas Fitzgerald who loaned the picture to the National Gallery of Victoria. The full length nude portrait shocked visitors so much that the picture was removed from display after only three weeks.

The painting was later purchased by Mr Norman Young, of Young and Jacksons, in 1908, and has been a feature at the hotel ever since.
7. Melbourne is home to many great sporting events. Which one of these would you NOT go to Melbourne to see?

Answer: The rush to drink before the bars closed at 6.00 pm.
