All of the possible answers are in Canada, but Capilano in North Vancouver, British Columbia is the one we were looking to cross. The bridge sits (or sways) 70 metres above the Capilano River and spans 137 metres. Although the original was made from hemp ropes, these were replaced with steel cables in 1903.

Ranney Gorge is in Ontario on the Trans Canada Trail, Lynn Canyon is in British Columbia and the surrounding parkland is home to several swimming holes while the bridge at Montmorency Falls takes you over the top of the falls which are taller than those at Niagara.

As told in the movie "A Bridge Too Far", Allied forces battled with Nazis for the Rhine bridge in Arnhem, Netherlands in September 1944, with the Germans eventually overwhelming the allies, led by Lieutenant Colonel John Frost, but the bridge was destroyed by American bomb planes in October 1944 to prevent the Germans using it.

It took over four years to build and ended up way over budget. The original cost estimate was 1.28 billion pesos and the final cost ended up closer to 2.18 billion pesos, making it one of the most expensive bridges ever built.
