Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which 2013 made-for-TV film includes a storm, waterspout, sharks, and spawned several sequels?

Answer: Sharknado

The premise of this movie is not entirely plausible, however it has inspired a cult following and several sequels. Basically, a freak storm creates waterspouts which scoop up sharks and dump them within the city of Los Angeles. Due to storm flooding, the city is infested with man-eating sharks which terrorise the city.

The storyline follows a group of people who fight the sharks and attempt to rid the city of sharks falling from the sky and those swimming around eating people.
2. Which Dutch Master painted Jesus calming the storm on the Sea of Galilee?

Answer: Rembrandt van Rijn

This account is found in the New Testament of the Bible in the Gospel of Mark. Jesus and his disciples were in a boat when a storm hit. The disciples panicked and worried they would drown. Jesus however slept peacefully. When he was woken by his disciples, he spoke to the storm and commanded it to quiet down. The winds and waves listened to him and the storm abated.

"The Storm on the Sea of Galilee" is a painting by Rembrandt of this incident. It is the only seascape painted by the Dutch Master. It was displayed in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, USA from where it was stolen in 1990 along with a few other works. More than fifteen years later, the theft was unresolved.

The song has been covered and remixed many times over the years, with Snoop Dogg covering the song for video game "Need for Speed: Underground 2" in 2004.

The plot of "The Tempest" follows a sorcerer named Prospero who had had the Dukedom of Milan taken away from him unlawfully by his brother, Antonio. In order to get his daughter, Miranda, her inheritance, Prospero creates a fake storm that tricks his brother and the King of Naples into thinking they are marooned on an island after a shipwreck. Over the course of the play, the evil nature of Antonio is laid bare before the king and the play ends with Miranda marrying the king's son.

As with most of Shakespeare's plays, this one too has been adapted for cinema, many times over. The setting of the play also provides inspiration for Mary Stewart's novel, "This Rough Magic", which borrows several elements and also its title from "The Tempest".

10. Which Biblical prophet was caught in a storm when he tried to go in a direction against God's commands?

Answer: Jonah

The story of Jonah is found in the Old Testament book of the same name. He was called by God to preach the message of repentance to the people of Nineveh. Instead he boarded a ship that sailed in the opposite direction, to Tarshish. Midway, a storm blew and it seemed like the ship would capsize. Jonah realized it was due to his disobedience and asked to be cast overboard.

He eventually reached Nineveh, via a big fish, and preached the word of God, causing the entire kingdom to repent.
