Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Gosford sits at the top of this body of water, sharing its name with another Australian city,

Answer: Brisbane Water

Gosford City is spread around this inlet of the Pacific Ocean, from Gosford in the north to Woy Woy in the south.
2. This entertainment complex is famous as the place "Where Friends Meet".

Answer: Central Coast Leagues Club

The "Leaguesy" is a local hot spot. No matter how much the locals knock the place, they always seem to be there on the week-end!
3. In the old days of Central Coast rugby league, what was the name of the team from Gosford?

Answer: The Townies

The Townies played out of the old Grahame Park in the middle of Gosford back in the 80s when the stadium had only one stand. They wore red and blue jerseys and became a juniors-only club in the early 90s before switching the name to the Giants and eventually moving their base to nearby Kariong.
4. What is the name of the famous tourist beach that is home to the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza and 'The Haven'?

Answer: Terrigal

This place gets overrun with tourists from Sydney on most weekends in summer making it more of a place to avoid for most locals. Still, it has become a place to be seen among the area's richer citizens with the numerous expensive bar cafes and high-fashion retailers pricing many of the locals away from the area.
5. Gosford is the major town and capital of an area known as the Central Coast. This region is bordered on the north and south by which two major Australian cities?

Answer: Newcastle and Sydney

Newcastle is north of the Central Coast and is home to about 460,000 people and Sydney to the south has about 4,500,000 residents. The Central Coast has around 285,000 people. Gosford itself had 154,000 residents at the 2001 census.
6. Erina Fair is a huge what?

Answer: Shopping Centre

It started out small in the 80s, but now it has a multiplex cinema, library, ice rink and four supermarkets!
7. What is the name of Gosford's team in the A-League football competition?

Answer: Central Coast Mariners

The place they play has changed its name more often than I can remember, from Grahame Park to Northpower Stadium, to Express Advocate Stadium, to the Bluetongue Stadium, to Central Coast Stadium.
8. To get to Sydney from Gosford, what large river must you cross first?

Answer: Hawkesbury River

The Hawkesbury River is what divides Gosford and Sydney. The mouth of the river is the very shark-infested Broken Bay.
9. What are the two main pubs in Woy Woy, at the southern end of Gosford City?

Answer: The Old Pub and The Bayview

The Grange is in Wyoming, the Settlers is in West Gosford, the Valley Tavern is in Niagara Park, the Elanora is in East Gosford, the Woodport is in Erina and you can probably guess the last one!
10. What is the name of the main street running north-south through the centre of Gosford?

Answer: Mann Street

Mann Street is the main road running through the centre of town, but Manns Road is the best way to go to avoid Mann Street!
