Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Often near the top of any list of beautiful beaches is this one on La Digue Island in the Seychelles. What is the name of this must visit beach?

Answer: Source d'Argent

"Argent" being French for "silver", makes Source d'Argent the correct answer, although a more literal translation is "Source of money".
Found on the Indian Ocean coast, this beautiful stretch of white sand interspersed with huge granite boulders make this beach an inclusion on many bucket lists.
The clear turquoise waters make the sea ideal for swimming and the fact that the beach is protected from adverse weather by the cove means that it is hugely popular with tourists, once they have paid their entrance fee.
2. Travel to Bocas Town in Panama to relax on this beautiful beach, named for the abundance of which creatures?

Answer: Starfish

Starfish Beach, or "Playa Estrella" in Spanish is found at the southern tip of Isla Colón, in the Caribbean Sea. It is a white sand beach, which although narrow, is very beautiful, with the sea teeming with bright orange starfish, often found at the edge of the sea grass.
As an added bonus for nature lovers, Bocas del Toro is also home to Sloth Island, where once you've had your fill of starfish watching, you can view these guys moving slowly in the trees.
3. The south eastern section of Cyprus is the location for which beach, that was named the third best beach in Europe in 2011?

Answer: Fig Tree

Popular website, TripAdvisor named Fig Tree Beach as the third best in Europe in 2011 and in 2019, Big 7 Travel named this popular beach as third best in the world.
The crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the soft sand found on the beach make this a must go spot for many of the island's tourists and locals alike.
4. Fort Bragg, California is home to which much visited beach, created from a garbage dump?

Answer: Glass Beach

Between 1949 and 1967, the area now known as Glass Beach was a garbage dump. The constant movement of the sea meant that once all the non degradable trash was moved following the site's closure, a stunning beach of polished glass was left behind.
The beach now attracts tens of thousands of tourists each year and it is also good to know that much of the non degradable garbage that once littered the beach was turned into art rather than heading for landfill.
5. On which beautiful Caribbean beach can you sit alongside the rusting hulks of two American M4 Sherman tanks?

Answer: Flamenco

Situated on the Caribbean island of Culebra, a part of Puerto Rico, Flamenco Beach was a weapons testing site for the US Navy for over 30 years before their departure in 1975.
When they stopped using the island, they left behind the two tanks which are rusting away on the otherwise pristine white sand beach.
The beach has been the top ranked beach in Puerto Rico for many years, and is also one of the top ranked beaches in the world.
6. This beach inside Jervis Bay, New South Wales, Australia allegedly has the whitest sand in the world. What is the beach called?

Answer: Greenfield

The crystal clear waters of the Tasman Sea lapping at the whitest of white sand make Greenfield Beach a little piece of heaven here on earth.
Be warned though, if its peace and solitude you're after, better visit in a mid winter such as July, for in the summer, this beach is packed to bursting point and if it is shade you prefer, the bay is ringed by nature trees, perfect for staying out of the sun.
Winter is also the ideal time to spend a day on the beach, whale watching as the annual migration of humpback whales takes place between June and November, and these majestic creatures often use the sheltered waters of Jervis Bay as a chance to rest for a while.

It is one of the more exclusive communities in Canada, with motor vehicles being banned for most of the summer months and those which are permitted, such as delivery vehicles, having to yield to pedestrians and cyclists at all times.
8. On the Dutch island of Aruba, you can sunbathe on this beach, often rated as one of the finest in the world. Which beach is this?

Answer: Eagle Beach

Eagle Beach is in Oranjestad, the capital city of Aruba and is well known as the widest beach on the island, famed for its abundance of soft white sand and year round average temperature of 28 degrees Celsius (82 Fahrenheit).
As if the unspoilt beach wasn't enough to tempt tourists, visitors also rave about the clarity and quality of the Caribbean Sea surrounding the island.
9. Let's go to South Africa. Just 14 kilometres from Margate in KwaZulu-Natal, you will find which suburb of Port Shepstone?

Answer: Oslo Beach

Not only is Oslo Beach the name of the suburb, it is also the name of the beach that gives the town its name. This beach is very popular for watching dolphins as well as Humpback and Southern Right Whales.
Swimming is not recommended however as there are no shark nets present in the Indian Ocean at Oslo Beach.

The picture for this question is from the famous Vigeland Park in Oslo, home to 212 bronze and granite sculptures from the genius that was Gustav Vigeland.
