Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these is a town in Texas that sounds like a haven for dendrophobes?

Answer: Notrees

Only one is an actual town. Since dendrophobia is the fear of trees, a town like "Notrees" sounds perfect. Since it is located in Texas, I wouldn't be surprised if there are no trees there. It was named by a grocer named (get this...) Charlie Brown. When he named it, there was only one tree in the entire town.
2. The often mispronounced Washington city of Puyallup is correctly pronounced how?

Answer: pew-ALL-up

At one time, the slogan for a Seattle-based newsgroup was "We can pronounce 'Puyallup'." Another strange town name in Washington is "Sequim", pronounced "Squim".
3. Where would you find Egypt?

Answer: Texas

Texas is also home to towns like "Happy" and "Earth". Yes, you can also find Egypt in Africa, but this quiz is about towns in the US.
4. There is place called Okay in Oklahoma.

Answer: True

Since Oklahoma's abbreviation is "OK", then the mailing address for that town would be "Okay, OK".
5. Into what state would you have to travel to see Truth Or Consequences?

Answer: New Mexico

Yes, this city is actually named after a game show of the same name. It was originally named Hot Springs, but changed its name.
6. Where was the very first city with ".com" in its name located?

Answer: Oregon

The town of Halfway, Oregon, was given financial support by the Half.com marketing team and thus changed the town's name to Half.com
7. If someone told you to "go to Hell", which state could you travel to?

Answer: Michigan

One theory about how this town got its name says that a man named George Reeves was asked what he thought the town should be named. George replied, "I don't care, you can name it Hell if you want to."
8. Established in 1977, which Arizona town originally had a population of four?

Answer: Nothing

"Shorter" is in Alabama, and "Crackpot" is in England. A sign outside the village says: "The staunch citizens of Nothing are full of hope and faith and believe in work ethic. Through the years these dedicated people had faith in Nothing, hope for Nothing, and worked for Nothing for nothing."
9. Which of these is a town in Arizona?

Answer: Why

It was originally named "Y", after a Y-shaped intersection between two state highways.
10. Would you find the towns of Dead Horse (spelled as two words, not as one word) and Chicken in the same state?

Answer: No

The town named Chicken is in Alaska, while the town named Dead Horse is in Arkansas. Chicken was supposed to be named after the state bird, but the state bird is a Ptarmigan. Since they didn't want to be the object of ridicule for having such a hard-to-spell name, they decided on Chicken ... and still they're ridiculed. Dead Horse was named after a company by the same name.

There is a Deadhorse in Alaska, but it's spelled as one word.
