Answer: Captain

At the end of the Civil War most officers with brevet (temporary) ranks returned to their previous ranks. Custer was only promoted to Lieutenant Colonel when the Seventh Cavalry was formed.

Answer: Last

Custer was NOT strong academically and came bottom of his graduating class. His father's influence on West Point got him in there in the first place. Without his dad, West Point wouldn't have accepted him.
