Pat wanted to be a physician. When his deficiencies in Greek, Latin, and French prevented him from entering Medical School, he felt he had disgraced his family, so he ran away and joined the British Army.

Cleburne worked as a druggist clerk in Cincinatti, Ohio for six months before moving to Helena, Arkansas.

A yellow fever epidemic hit town in September 1855. While most of the citizens fled, Cleburne stayed behind and helped nurse the sick.

Granbury was shot in the head very near the spot Cleburne was killed. He fell to his knees, through his hands to his face and his body locked in that position.

"Red Pepper" was his favorite horse. After being wounded at Spring Hill, he was forced to ride another mount at Franklin. Luckily for "Red Pepper" because that horse was killed there.
