The first Confederate Treasury notes were issued from Montgomery, Alabama. Montgomery was the first capital of the Confederacy. Approximately 607 $1,000 and $500 were issued. As for the lower denominations 1,606 $100 and $50 notes were issued. These notes are highly sought after by collectors and all denominations on todays market command a 5 figure price.

Answer: July 25,1861

The date July 25, 1861, appeared on the face of the note. The confederate government authorized $20,000,000 to be issued, however $17,300,000 was actually issued.

Clement Clay was governor of Alabama and then a senator representing Alabama both in the United States and Confederate States senate. These notes are plentiful (roughly 945,000 were issued) and go for between $50-$100 depending on grade. Some notes in Uncirculated condition can go as high as $225!
