Akevitt (as it's called in Norway) or akvavit (in other parts of Scandinavia) is a distilled liquor made from potatoes but flavored with caraway seeds. Its name translates to "water of life". The Norwegian variation of akevitt is matured for longer periods of time than its counterparts, giving it a stronger flavor and aroma.

Quibebe is a popular soup in the northeastern parts of Brazil. It is made from a winter squash called andai. It is a very creamy, thick soup that has a sweet taste. Although it is not meant to be, the soup is sometimes treated as a dessert, a snack or even a breakfast food.

Daifuku are mochi rice cakes most commonly filled with a red bean paste called anko. They are typically covered in rice flour to prevent the daifuku from sticking to each other and to the eater's fingers. Variations may be dusted with different powders such as cocoa powder or potato flour.

Beaujolais nouveau is a red French wine from Burgundy. It is produced only to be drunk in November after the grapes have been fermented in carbon-dioxide and is meant to be drunk soon after production.

Lapskaus is a hearty Norwegian stew that is traditionally made with leftover meat and vegetables. It is the Norwegian equivalent of beef stew as beef is typically the primary meat used, in addition to potatoes, carrots and other hearty vegetables.

Although it sounds like crumb cake, the Norwegian dessert krumkake is not a crumb cake. It's name means curved cake and it is a cookie that looks similar to an ice cream cone or the Italian pizzelle. Traditionally, the cookies are made on a griddle and are eaten plain.
More recently, however, they are popularly made on a waffle iron and are filled multekrem, a Norwegian whipped cream flavored with cloudberries.

The caipirinha is the national cocktail of Brazil. It is made from sugar, lime and a sugarcane liquor called cachaca. The caipirinha is a staple in any Brazilian restaurant, especially those along the coastline and beaches. It is served most often in an old-fashioned glass and on the rocks.

Teurgole is a French rice pudding-like dessert spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg. It is baked in earthenware for hours which creates a thick consistency and crunchy top like creme brulee.

Tej is an Ethiopian alcoholic beverage similar to mead in Europe. It is sometimes said to be the national drink of Ethiopia. It is made from honey, water and a medicinal plant called gesho. Zenzai is a soup popular in the Okinawa Prefecture of Japan. It is a red bean soup traditionally served chilled over ice in the summertime with a mochi rice cake. In the winter, zenzai is served warm.
