Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 2013, players from around the world voted to select a brand new Monopoly token, what won?

Answer: Cat

The cat beat out the helicopter, diamond ring, robot, and guitar. Voters from 185 countries participated in the month-long vote.
2. Which token did the cat replace in the 2013 vote?

Answer: Iron

The iron was one of the original pieces from 1935. The shoe and wheelbarrow were narrowly saved from last place.
3. Which piece was voted to become the brand new piece in 1998, and was in Monopoly sets from 1999-2007?

Answer: Sack of Money

The sack of money beat out the bi-plane and piggy bank in the vote. It had 51% of the vote compared to 29% for the bi-plane, and 20% for the piggy bank.
4. What game token is only available in the Deluxe Edition?

Answer: Train

The Deluxe Edition is rarely seen in stores these days, so your best bet would be to buy it online if you are interested in acquiring it.
5. Which game token is only available in the Heirloom Edition?

Answer: Piggy bank

This expensive Monopoly edition is even rarer than the Deluxe Edition, though it can still be found online.
6. How many tokens were available in the Target-only Monopoly game known as the Golden Token Bonus Edition?

Answer: 13

This Monopoly game was limited edition, and came out in 2013. This edition's tokens were the robot, cat, helicopter, diamond ring, guitar, dog, battleship, iron, wheelbarrow, hat, thimble, car, and shoe tokens. Since they lost the 2013 vote, it would be the only edition that included the robot, helicopter, diamond ring, and guitar. It would also be the last edition featuring the iron.
7. What was the cannon token originally supposed to be called?

Answer: Howitzer

The cannon piece was first used in another Parker Brothers game called Conflict, and was thrown in with Monopoly. The same story also applies to the battleship piece in Monopoly. The cannon is now retired.
8. Which three pieces were in sets from the 1930s until being retired together in the 1950s?

Answer: Purse, Lantern, Rocking Horse

The lantern is in the 80th anniversary Monopoly along with other retired tokens to celebrate Monopoly's tokens. The eight tokens in this brand new set have gone through a re-design.
9. Which 20th century Monopoly set is the only one to feature a Mr. Monopoly token standing in his suit?

Answer: 60th Anniversary Edition

Other editions have had pieces with him such as Mr. Monopoly sitting at a computer or wearing a football uniform, but this is the only one that wasn't in a themed edition, and where he was just standing in his suit. The token of him sitting at a computer was in the .com edition.

There was an optional way to play with him. Every time a player would roll doubles, the token would be moved one space. Rent could not be collected from the space he was currently occupying, and if he made it around the entire board, the game would end.

The person with the most money (counting all assets such as properties, houses, and hotels) would be declared the winner. In the NFL edition, a Mr. Monopoly wearing a football uniform and holding a football was used as a normal token.
10. Which of the incumbent tokens was voted the favorite in the 1998 vote?

Answer: Car

The car garnered 18% of the vote. The dog was second with 16%. Last was the wheelbarrow with 3%.
