Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which musical sings about 'Blood Money'?

Answer: Jesus Christ Superstar

Judas sings "Damned For All Time/Blood Money" when he betrays Jesus to the High Priests.

He originally doesn't want the reward but they talk him into it:

"Judas :
I don't want your blood money

Annas :
But you might as well take it
We think that you should

Caiaphas :
Think of the things
You can do with that money
Choose any charity
Give to the poor
We've noted your motives
We've noted your feelings
This isn't blood money
It's a fee nothing more"
2. Which cat is Bustopher Jones known as?

Answer: The Cat About Town

"In the whole of St. James the smartest of names is
The name of this Brummel of cats
And we're all of us proud to be nodded or bowed to
By Bustopher Jones in white spats"

The Theatre Cat is Gus, The Mystery Cat is Macavity and Grizabella is the Glamour Cat.
3. Bertie Wooster is a leading role in which musical?

Answer: Jeeves

Bertie, with the assistance of his ever faithful butler Jeeves, entertains the audience with a classic farce of mistaken identity and unrequited love.
4. Which musical was based on a Billy Wilder Film?

Answer: Sunset Boulevard

Billy Wilder was the co-writer and director of the 1950 movie starring William Holden and Gloria Swanson.

"Whistle Down The Wind" is the only other show based on a movie - it was directed by Bryan Forbes and released in 1961.
5. Which character is from "Whistle Down The Wind"?

Answer: Brat

Brat, whose real name is Bluejay, is the middle child of the three siblings who are at the centre of the show.

All of the children are named after birds.

The eldest is Swallow, then Bluejay and the youngest is Robin (called Poor Baby in the musical.)

Thomas Barnardo is the main character in "The Likes Of Us".

Betty Schaefer is from "Sunset Boulevard".

Bombalurina is a character from "Cats".
6. Ben Elton wrote the lyrics for which musical?

Answer: The Beautiful Game

Benjamin Charles Elton is a comedian, script writer, author, actor and director.

He is probably best known for co-writing "The Young Ones" and all the "Blackadder" TV series.

He has also written twelve novels and three West End plays.

Besides "The Beautiful Game" he has also written two 'compilation' musicals using the artists' own songs.

The first of these was "We Will Rock You" using Queen's music and the second, "Tonight's The Night", based on Rod Stewart.
7. In which musical is a banjo, or the lack of one, part of the storyline?

Answer: Jeeves

"Jeeves" (and "By Jeeves") begins at a charity benefit in the village hall to save the church steeple.

The benefit is a banjo concert by Bertram Wooster but just as the show is about to start they realise that Bertie's banjo has been substituted with a frying pan.

Bertie sets out to stall the audience with anecdotes from his life until a new banjo can be found.
8. The 'Beautiful Game' refers to what sport?

Answer: Football

The plot of the musical revolves around the local football (or soccer) team. It is made up of both Protestant and Catholic youths in 1970s Ireland amid a time of violence and religious intolerance.

Pelé called his autobiography "My Life and the Beautiful Game" and this is where the musical's title was taken from.
9. Buffy and Belle are both characters from which musical?

Answer: Starlight Express

Buffy and Belle are both coaches.

Buffy is the Buffet Car:

"Buffy at your service
Ever open wide
My microwave is cooking to warm you from inside
A lotta locomotion will do the trick
Come and bite my burgers
I'm hot and cheap and quick"

Belle is The Sleeping Car :

"I'm Belle, Belle, Belle the sleeping car
Doesn't matter who you are
Just climb aboard to lie with me
And when you wake I'll make you tea"
10. Opening in April 2009, this musical has been revised and renamed from one of ALW's previous works.

Answer: Boys In The Photograph

ALW and Ben Elton have done a complete rewrite of "The Beautiful Game" - some songs have been added and others taken out.

It has a more uplifting ending than the original.

"By Jeeves" was a rewrite of "Jeeves" but it was revised in 1996.

The other two are just fabricated titles.
