Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Forsaken went to the Shadow for a number of reasons, some rational, some ... not so rational. Which Forsaken joined the Shadow after being passed over as commander of the forces of the Light in favor of perennial rival Lews Therin Telamon?

Answer: Demandred

Lanfear and Rahvin went to the Shadow out of pure thirst for power (and in Lanfear's case, a chance to win back Lews Therin). Asmodean went for the promise of immortality, an eternity in which to compose. Demandred was born a day after Lews Therin, and spent his life in the Dragon's shadow: almost as powerful, almost as skilled, almost as respected.
2. Men who come to the Black Tower to be tested, but who cannot be taught to channel, are not turned away entirely. Instead, they are offered a place in what organization?

Answer: The Legion of the Dragon

The Legion of the Dragon is commanded by Davram Bashere, and while its members don't get to wield the One Power, they do get to wear snazzier coats than the Asha'man, blue with a red dragon across the chest.
3. In both the White Tower and the Black Tower, advancement is determined by strength in the One Power. The strongest male channelers can become Asha'man, and the strongest female channelers can become Aes Sedai. What are the ranks just below these?

Answer: Dedicated and Accepted

The lowest rank in the White Tower is Novice, while the lowest rank in the Black Tower is Soldier.
4. The Atha'an Miere are ruled by the Mistress of the Ships. From what rank is the Mistress of Ships selected by the First Twelve?

Answer: Wavemistress

The Mistress of the Ships gets an upgrade in her jewelry and her parasol - she gets six piercings in each ear and one in her nose, and a three-tiered blue parasol fringed in gold.
5. Traditionally, Tear is ruled by a council of High Lords. The commands of the High Lords are carried out by a second class of nobility. What is this second class called?

Answer: Lords of the Land

After Rand takes the Stone of Tear, the High Lords are pressed into accepting him as ruler over them, resulting in a planned rebellion. Eventually, Rand crowns Darlin Sisnera, a former High Lord, King of Tear. Nobody mentions what happens to the Lords of the Land after that. Poor Lords of the Land.
6. When Elayne claims the Lion Throne of Andor as scion of House Trakand, she marshals support from other noble houses. She takes as her advisor the head of the most powerful house supporting her, and regularly thanks the Light that this advisor doesn't want to claim the throne for herself. Who is this woman, who is second in line for the Lion Throne?

Answer: Dyelin Taravin

Dyelin is often seen wearing the Owl and Oak, the symbols of House Taravin. Despite this, she has made no move for the throne, and Elayne is convinced that she won't.
7. The Amyrlin Seat is the head of the White Tower. She is supported by the Keeper of the Chronicles, who is usually a member of the Ajah the Amyrlin is raised from. Which of these women was never a Keeper of the Chronicles?

Answer: Merean Redhill

Merean Sedai was the Mistress of Novices to Tamra Ospenya.
8. Ascending to the rank of Blademaster requires an aspirant to either be awarded the rank by a council of five Blademasters who are satisfied of the aspirant's skill, or to defeat a Blademaster in battle. Which Blademaster did Rand al'Thor defeat and kill?

Answer: Turak Aladon, High Lord of Seanchan

Toram Riatin was killed by Lan Mandragoran. Hammar was killed by Gawyn Trakand. Turan was killed by Rodel Ituralde.
9. Although no one can channel while in the city of Far Madding, thanks to the ter'angreal called the Guardian, who can come closest to Far Madding before being cut off from the Source?

Answer: Women

Ter'angreal called wells allow both men and women to channel in small measure while in Far Madding, by storing Power before the channeler enters the area of the Guardian's effect.
10. Matrim Cauthon commands the Band of the Red Hand as its Captain-General. His second-in-command is Talmanes, Lieutenant-General of the Band's cavalry. Next in line behind Talmanes is the Lieutenant-General of the Band's infantry, a commoner who has risen to his place solely on merit. Who is he?

Answer: Daerid

The infantry offers a rare opportunity for commoners to advance to leadership positions, as the cavalry is considered by most nations in the Westlands to be the province of nobility.
