Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The world of "The Wheel of Time" has a large number of unique, strange creatures who inhabit its shores. The Seanchan are masters in taming many of these creatures and using them in their wars. In this context, what is the name of the three eyed monsters that some Seanchan soldiers ride?

Answer: Grolm

The Seanchan are the descendents of Arthur Hawkwing's armies sent over the Aryth Ocean. They have a highly efficient army which is mainly powered by the Sul'dam who chain women who can channel (marath'damane) and use their powers to wage battle. At the end of the tenth book the Seanchan have conquered Amadicia, Taraborn and Ebou Dar.
2. Each one of the nations found in the world of "The Wheel of Time" is unique in itself. Each has a different society and a different dialect and type of people. In this context, what is the name of the city nation which is ruled by Consuls and has a matriarchal society? Cadsuane Aes Sedai comes from this city.

Answer: Far Madding

Far Madding is only referred to in the ninth book where Rand travels to it along with Min, Nynaeve and Lan. Far Madding is isolated from the One Power like a Stedding due to the presence of ter'angreal. Visitors coming into Far Madding are not allowed to bring in swords unless they are peace bonded.
3. The Aiel are the most interesting of all of "The Wheel of Time's" peoples. Ironically this warrior race served the Aes Sedai during the Age of Legends and were sworn to peace. Perhaps a remnant of this belief in peace is that an Aiel will not touch a sword even if threatened with death. Why do they not do so?

Answer: A sword cannot be used for anything other than killing while a spear or a knife can be used in other ways

The Aiel were called the Da'shain Aiel during the Age of Legends. Da'sain Aiel means 'dedicated to peace' in the Old Tongue. Now the Aiel are a warrior race who see life as a dream from which all men must wake. The Aiel are divided into twelve clans each clan being made up of a large number of septs.
4. The world of "The Wheel of Time" contains several inspiring characters. This uncrowned king is married to Nynaeve and is a Battle Lord and a Warder. Name him and the nation from which he originates.

Answer: Al'Lan Mandragoran from Malkier

Al'Lan Mandragoran is the son of the last king of Malkier. Soon after his birth, Malkier fell to the Shadow and now the Blight has overrun it. Lan was the Warder of Moiraine Damodred before she fell in to the Eelfinn ter'angreal. At the end of the tenth book he is bonded to Myrelle Sedai and married to Nynaeve.
5. In the first book we encounter a peddler who visits the Two Rivers every year. What is this peddler's name?

Answer: Padan Fain

Padan Fain is a darkfriend who is the Dark One's hound. He has also been consumed by Mordeth and now is a sort of amalgamation of Mordeth, Padan Fain and the Dark One. He carries a dagger that comes from Shadar Logoth and has strange powers. Most men feel fear at a Myrddraal's eyeless gaze; Myrddraal feel fear at Fain's gaze.
6. Elayne Trakand bonded Birgitte. What is unique about this bonding as compared to other bonds between Aes Sedai and Warder?

Answer: Birgitte is a woman, therefore she is the first woman Warder

Birgitte was torn out of the World of Dreams by Moghedian. In order to keep her alive when Nynaeve's healing could not aid her, Elayne bonded Birgitte as her Warder. A Warder receives gifts of quick healing, the ability to go long periods without any food, water and rest and the ability to sense the taint of the Dark One at a distance.
7. Perrin Aybara is one of the few humans who can converse with wolves. However, he first found out that he had this talent when he was travelling with another person who could talk to the wolves. What was this person's name, according to the wolves?

Answer: Long Tooth

This occurs in the first book, "The Eye of the World". Perrin is travelling with Egwene attempting to reach Camelyn. However they get lost in the wilderness and they come across Elyas Machera. He tells Perrin that he can also communicate with the wolves. Perrin uses this skill to help his friends in later books when he truly accepts that he has this skill.
8. Egwene al'Vere becomes the Amyrlin Seat for the rebel Aes Sedai. During her inaugural speech she decrees that four women will be raised Aes Sedai. Who are these four women?

Answer: Elayne, Nynaeve, Theodrin and Faolain

Both Theodrin and Faolain were going to be raised Aes Sedai anyway when the White Tower was regained, and Elayne was probably also going to be raised Aes Sedai. However, as Nynaeve, at the time, could not channel without being angry, this decree was controversial at best.
9. The Ogier found Steddings at various places since the Breaking. Some were reclaimed, some were abandoned and some were never re-settled. Perrin sheltered in one that was never re-settled in the first Book. Where was this Stedding?

Answer: Where Artur Hawkwing's city was to be

Perrin entered this Stedding to take refuge from Ravens that were pursuing Elyas, Perrin, Egwene and the wolves. It is here that he and Egwene were captured by the Children of the Light.
10. The Seanchan live across the Aryth Ocean in a land called Seanchan. What is the name of their capital which holds the Crystal Throne?

Answer: Seandar

The Seanchan are ruled by an Empress who is a direct descendent of Artur Hawkwing. The Seanchan have a nobility called the Blood. One can be raised to the Blood for valour and service or one can be born into the Blood.
