Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who said, "True, I talk of dreams, Which are the children of an idle brain, Begot of nothing but vain fantasy."

Answer: Mercutio

This is said directly after Mercutio's rant regarding Queen Mab.
2. Who said, "What 's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet."

Answer: Juliet

This is said after Romeo's famous (but too easy for this quiz) "what light through yonder window breaks."
3. Who said, "Speak briefly, can you like of Paris' love?"

Answer: Lady Capulet

The mother of Juliet is explaining how Paris would like to be her husband. This is just before the party starts and she meets her star-crossed lover!
4. Who said, "These violent delights have violent ends And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, Which, as they kiss, consume."

Answer: Friar Laurence

Friar Laurence is trying to calm Romeo down when he switches his love from Roselyn to Juliet. This speech takes place right before Juliet enters to marry Romeo.
5. Who said, "But he that hath the steerage of my course, direct my sail!"

Answer: Romeo

Just before Romeo goes to the Capulet party, putting the tragic events of the play into motion, he has a premonition of untimely death.
6. Who said, "Alas that love, so gentle in his view, Should be so tyrannous and rough in proof."

Answer: Benvolio

To which Romeo replies, "Alas that love whose views muffled still should without eyes see pathways to his will."
7. Who said, "Here, sir, a ring she bid me give you, sir: Hie you, make haste, for it grows very late."

Answer: Nurse

The Nurse returns the ring to Romeo after he is banished for killing Tybalt to symbolize that his and Juliet's love can outlast banishment.
8. Who said, "How! will she none? doth she not give us thanks? Is she not proud? doth she not count her blest, Unworthy as she is..."

Answer: Lord Capulet

This is Lord Capulet's response to Juliet, who refuses to go along with the marriage to Paris her father has set up for them (because she has already married Romeo).
9. Who said, "The day is hot, the Capulets abroad, And, if we meet, we shall not scape a brawl; For now, these hot days, is the mad blood stirring."

Answer: Benvolio

Benvolio warns Mercutio to get off the streets or there will be another fight with the Capulets. Ironically, Mercutio dies not too long after this warning.
10. Who said, "Never was a story of more woe Than this of Juliet and her Romeo."

Answer: Prince

As the last lines in the play, Prince reflects on the suicide of Romeo and Juliet.
