Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Forrest ran toward Jenny at the Anti-War Rally, he ran past something not once but twice. Who appeared for the second time, as Forrest worked his way through the crowd?

Answer: Same man wearing the same dark coat , cap, and glasses

As he was dashing through the crowd to reach Jenny, on the right-hand side was a man in a dark coat, cap, and glasses. A few seconds later as Forrest breaks through the crowd, the same man appears in a split-second camera shot.
2. When Forrest Gump began his 3-year running trek, which location did he NOT run through, over, or by?

Answer: Niagara Falls

Gump began his run thru his little town, deciding to run through the entire Greenbow County & then continuing through the State of Alabama into Mississippi where we see the sign "Mississippi Welcomes You"; Forrest could be seen running down the boardwalk of the Santa Monica Beach entering the walkway into the Yacht Club; he then ran down San Francisco St in Flagstaff, AZ and then on through the now abandoned truck stop.
Three more points of interest that were captured as part of his journey: (1) Marshall Point Lighthouse; (2) North Carolina Grandfather Mountain; (3) Utah's Monument Valley.
3. What was Forrest Gump's declaration when he decided he had run his full course across America and back (and then some)?

Answer: "I'm pretty tired. I think I'll go home now."

As Forrest came to the end of his three-year run in the Southwestern desert, and while being followed by other runners who were dealing with their own demons and issues, Forrest said, "My Mama always said you've got to put the past behind you before you can move on and I think that's what my run was all about."
Remember the Happy Face and the overused 70's expression "(blank) Happens" developing from Forrest's indirect contributions?
Roth rocked it on this screenplay.
4. In the shrimping boat scene where trash was netted from the ocean instead of shrimp, which soda can was amongst the garbage, even though it hadn't been released for consumption to the public? It's the title of a song, too.

Answer: Mellow Yellow

Lt. Dan took over their shrimping business September 1975 when Forrest was called home because his mother, played by Sally Field, was quite ill. Mellow Yellow, manufactured by The Coca-Cola Company wasn't released for purchase until 1979.
5. Mrs. Gump turned the family home into a boarding house. One young gentleman named Elvis Presley boarded with the Gumps before his celebrity. Hanging out while Elvis played his guitar, Forrest influenced Elvis by giving him what idea?

Answer: Developing what became his 'signature' moves

Early in the movie while Forrest was still in leg braces, he was in Elvis' room making silly moves while Elvis played the guitar and Elvis asks Forrest to show him that crazy little walk he did.
In another scene, Forrest and Mrs. Gump walked past a retail store with a TV in the window and saw Elvis on the screen shaking his legs in a way similar to Forrest's crazy walk.
6. Forrest Gump as a boy and adult was fond of wearing plaid shirts in a specific color. What was Forrest's favorite color of shirt?

Answer: Blue Plaid

Adult Forrest was wearing a blue plaid shirt in the beginning of the bus stop scene, under his jacket on the Boot Camp bus, when he met Bubba's family, on his first shrimping voyage, when he comes home to his sick mother, just to name a few scenes. He did forgo plaid for his wedding and wore a solid blue shirt.
Our first introduction to Forrest as a young boy, he was wearing a blue plaid panel shirt and when Forrest Jr got on the school bus, he was wearing blue plaid.
Will you ever look at a blue plaid shirt again without thinking of Forrest?
7. Jenny's last name was Curran; however, it was never spoken in the movie. Three of the answer choices are ways we were told Jenny's last name. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: School drawing of her family and Jenny scratched out her father & last name

Jenny Curran is first introduced to the world in Winston Groom's book, "Forrest Gump". The movie's dialog however never addressed her last name. Just 'Jenny' throughout the movie kept her perfectly young, innocent, and beautiful, just the way Forrest saw her. (1) Jenny's full name flashed on an envelope Forrest sends from Vietnam; (2) on her family's mailbox at the house that Forrest eventually had torn down as an unspoken gift in remembrance of Jenny; and (3) Curran was visible on the "return to sender" envelopes Forrest received while in the hospital recovering from the bullet wound to his "buttocks".
8. Lieutenant Dan surprised Forrest by attending his wedding on the lawn of his family home. Lt Dan brought someone with him. Who was she?

Answer: fiancée

Forrest watched as Lt Dan walked up and was astonished that he had "new legs" (titanium prostheses). Lt Dan introduces Forrest to his fiancée, Susan.
9. What real-life celebrity host in the 60s & 70s played himself in the movie? (one of his guests refers to him as "Dick")

Answer: Dick Cavett

Forrest, after his return from the ping pong championship in China, was a guest along with John Lennon on a talk show where Dick Cavett was the host. Forrest appeared to be a deer staring into the headlights as John commented on Forrest's impression of China using lyrics from one of his songs - "No Possessions?" "No Religion, Too?", "Easy If You Try, Dick" - that was when John Lennon addressed Dick by name.
"Imagine" was the song - Priceless!
10. One of Forrest's pots of gold was an investment into a fruit company. Which fruit did he refer to?

Answer: Apple

The fruit company Forrest referred to in the movie turned out to be Apple Computers. Lt. Dan was responsible for using the money from their Bubba Gump Shrimp Company to invest in the up and coming computer company.
