Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. First word of four letters, complete this sci/fi movie title: "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes ___"

Answer: Back

"Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" was first released in 1980.
It was the second movie in the "Star Wars" saga to be released but is actually the fifth one sequentially.
This is the episode where Luke's friends are pursued by Darth Vader's forces, as he tries to capture Luke and Luke eventually hears something he doesn't really want to know!
2. Second word of four letters; change one letter from the answer to Q1 and finish this fantasy movie title: "Soldier Jack or the Man Who Caught Death in a ___"

Answer: Sack

"Soldier Jack or the Man Who Caught Death in a Sack" is a 1988 movie starring Mike Heintzman as a WWII soldier who is granted two wishes. He wishes for death to be abolished. Not surprisingly this has huge consequences for humankind and so eventually Jack returns things to their normal order.
3. Third word of four letters; change one letter from the answer to Q2 and then rearrange the letters to finish this adventure movie title: "___ Away"

Answer: Cast

It was very difficult to find an obscure title for 'cast' so I went for this great film. "Cast Away" (2000) starred Tom Hanks as Chuck Noland, a successful business executive who gets stranded on a remote island. This was the movie that Tom Hanks had to lose a considerable amount of weight for (and grow a beard). He was nominated for an Academy Award for his excellent performance but did not quite win the Oscar, Russell Crowe took the prize home for his performance in "Gladiator".
4. Fourth word of four letters; change one letter from answer in Q3 and then rearrange the letters to complete this romantic comedy movie title: "The ___ Filler"

Answer: Seat

"The Seat Filler" was released in 2004. It is a comedy and stars Kelly Rowland, Duane Martin, Melanie Brown, Kyla Pratt, and Shemar Moore.
Derek (Duane Martin) is a law student who supplements his income by getting paid to watch theatre shows that might otherwise have a small audience. An identity mix-up leads to complications as Derek is mistaken for a big-cheese in the theatre world. Will he keep the girl? Who knows (and really, who cares)?
5. Fifth word of five letters; add one letter to the answer in Q4 and then rearrange the letters to complete this historical romance movie title: "___ of July"

Answer: Feast

"Feast of July" (1995) is set in 19th century Engand. The plot is based around a short story by H.E. Bates and concerns three brothers who are all smitten by the same girl. Eventually she agrees to marry the youngest of the brothers but it later unfolds that she has a past that none of them know about. Embeth Davidtz and Ben Chaplin take the two starring roles.
6. Sixth word of six letters; add one letter to the answer in Q5 then rearrange the letters to complete this strange-sounding (and violent) movie title: "___, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!"

Answer: Faster

"Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" was released in 1965. It is a violent story of three strippers who get involved in murder, kidnap, ransom, and various other criminal activities. However things do not quite go to plan and ultimately all of them end up as victims; couldn't happen to nicer girls.
7. Seventh word of six letters; change one letter from the answer to Q6 and find this well-known mock horror character: Uncle ___ can be found in "The Addams Family".

Answer: Fester

Uncle Fester is a member of "The Addams Family". In the TV series he was played by Jackie Coogan. In the first two movies about "The Addams Family" he was played by Christopher Lloyd and subsequently has been played by Pat Thomas and by Michael Roberds.
Uncle Fester is a rather sinister, not to say deranged, character with a menacing appearance. Well, there's someone like him in most families I guess!
8. Eighth word of six letters; delete the 's' and add a 'u' from the answer to Q7 and then rearrange the letters to find this missing word. In the movie "12 Angry Men" Henry Fonda plays the first character to ___ the prosecution's claims.

Answer: Refute

"12 Angry Men" was first released in 1957. Although the basic premise of one juror persuading the other eleven to change their verdicts seems implausible it remains a powerful piece of film-making.
Henry Fonda is outstanding as the (nameless) juror who casts doubt on the prosecution's evidence and who refutes their claims.
9. Ninth word of six letters; change one letter from the answer to Q8 and rearrange the letters to complete this investigative documentary movie title: "Crimes of the ___"

Answer: Future

"Crimes of the Future" (1970) is a sci-fi movie based around the mysterious deaths of most of the women in the world. Ronald Mlodzik plays Adrian Tripod who traces the cause back to a cosmetics factory. The movie was initially shot without sound and the commentary (by Tripod) was added afterwards.
10. Now look at the answer to question one then look at the answer to question nine. Those two answers should suggest a time-travel movie title.

Answer: Back to the Future

"Back to the Future" starred Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Dr Emmett L Brown. Marty travels back to 1955 in the De Lorean time machine, where he must somehow ensure his parents fall in love. The Academy Award winning time-travel movie was first released in 1985 and spawned two inferior sequels.
