Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The opening sequence of the movie showed Jet Li portraying the Chinese Emperor Han from the year 221 BC. His top general, Ming Guo, was sent to find a witch who could make the emperor immortal. What was this witch's name?

Answer: Zi Yuan

Zi Yuan, played by Michelle Yeoh, ended up falling in love with General Ming, ultimately leading to Ming's execution and Zi Yuan being stabbed. The child they conceived would come into play later in the movie.
2. We skip ahead a couple thousand years to 1946, 13 years after the events of "The Mummy Returns" (2001). Who was the young man who discovered the tomb of Emperor Han?

Answer: Alex O'Connell

Alex O'Connell, Rick and Evelyn's son, was a young man on his own mummy adventures. With the assistance of Professor Roger Wilson, Alex found the tomb of Emperor Han and, as he did 13 years earlier, "started a chain reaction that could bring about the next apocalypse" (quoted from Ardeth Bey from "The Mummy Returns").
3. While giving a public reading of her newest mummy book, Evelyn answered a question from someone in the audience asking if she was similar to the female character from her book, to which she replied, "I can honestly say she is a completely different person." It is then revealed that Rachel Weisz did not play the role of Evie. Who did?

Answer: Maria Bello

Evie made quite a living writing books about her two previous mummy experiences. She and Rick tried to settle and down and lead a normal life but got brought back into the adventurous task of mummy killing when their son unearthed Emperor Han.
4. The Eye of Shangri-La was a beautiful artifact that Rick and Evie took to China to present to the Chinese people on behalf of the British government. However, the Eye could also be used to resurrect the dead. How was the Eye unlocked to reveal the life-giving elixir contained within?

Answer: with the blood of someone pure of heart

General Yang, Professor Wilson's financier, forced Evie to read the inscription on the Eye, which was in ancient Chinese. The inscription revealed that a drop of blood from someone pure of heart would open the Eye. When Yang threatened to kill Rick, Evie stepped in the way and therefore revealed herself as being pure of heart. Choi then used a dagger to cut Evie's finger and used the blood to open the Eye.
5. The mummified body in the coffin on the Emperor's chariot was a decoy, and not really that of Han. What word did Lin use to identify the man in the coffin?

Answer: eunuch

After Lin stabbed the mummy in the coffin with the special dagger she said he was a decoy and he was a eunuch, assumed to be loyal to Emperor Han. The real mummy of Emperor Han was in the statue holding the reins of the chariot.
6. While transporting the O'Connell's, Lin, and Jonathan to the Himalayas, Mad Dog Maguire attempted a very rough landing halfway up a mountain. After a very heart-pounding descent and a close-call landing, there ended up being a "god awful smell" wafting throughout the aircraft. What was the source of the smell?

Answer: the yak yakked

Despite Jonathan's best efforts to put an air-sick bag over the yak's mouth, the contents of the yak's stomach ended up all over the plane, and all over Jonathan. But apparently there were showers in the Himalayas because the next scene showed Jonathan and the airsick yak completely clean.
7. At the Golden Shrine, Alex tried one last ditch attempt to prevent the emperor from placing the Eye of Shangri-La on top of the shrine to reveal the way to Shangri-La. What did he use to cause an avalanche that buried all of them in a massive blanket of snow?

Answer: dynamite and a grenade

Alex tied a hand grenade to some sticks of dynamite at the end of a rope. He pulled the pin on the grenade then swung the explosives toward the snow bank. The Emperor, when distracted by an attacking Lin, was unable to hold back the wall of snow and everyone was buried. The "good guys" survived by being covered up and protected by the Yetis.
8. With the help of the Yetis, the "good guys" arrived in Shangri-La. We found it was inhabited by Lin's mother, the woman stabbed by Han in the opening sequence. What did Lin's mother do when she first saw Alex?

Answer: attacked him

Zi Yuan first tried to attack Alex until Lin interceded and explained the situation. Zi Yuan then explained that the emperor must not be allowed to drink from the pool or else he would become immortal and have the ability to transform into hideous creatures.
9. In the major battle sequence, Jonathan and Mad Dog arrived just in time to strafe the terracotta soldiers attacking Rick and Evie. Jonathan then dropped a bomb directly on the jeep that was carrying General Yang and Choi. Which of those two "bad guys" died from the bomb?

Answer: neither

Neither of them died from the explosion. Instead they ended up fighting Evie and Lin and got trapped in a wheel gear, crushing them both to death. As gruesome as Yang's and Choi's deaths were, the next scene showed someone dying due to lava erupting from inside his body.
10. When fighting the Emperor in the final fight scene, Alex drew a mathematical symbol in the sand as a message to his father to let him know the strategy he planned on using against Emperor Han. What symbol was it?

Answer: division

The division sign was to signify a "divide and conquer" tactic, which was exactly what Rick told Alex they would do as they were riding on the motorcycle chasing after Han. The plan worked as Rick kept Han occupied and Alex attacked him from behind. Alex used the top piece of the broken dagger to stab Han from the back and Rick used the bottom piece to stab Han from the front. Both pieces met in Han's heart, fused together, and killed the Emperor.
