Disney's "Robin Hood" Trivia Quiz

I did my first quiz on one of my favorite Disney Classics. This animated classic was released in 1973 with all animal characters. Hopefully it is accurate and not too hard. Questions are in no particular order. Enjoy!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The narrator is seen at the opening of a book and throughout the movie as he gives us a verbal account of what really "happened in Sherwood Forest" Who is the narrator?

Answer: Alan-a-dale, a Rooster

Alan-a-dale, the rooster, is a traveling minstrel voiced by Roger Miller. He acts as the narrator. Roger Miller also sings (or whistles) most of the songs for this movie.
2. Prince John has a lot of money he needs counted due to his high taxes, and lots of errands he wants run due to his erratic and demanding nature. Who is prince John's treasurer and what kind of animal is he?

Answer: Sir Hiss, a Snake

Sir Hiss is Prince John's treasurer and servant. He is abused and called names and not liked by anyone. You can always count on him getting hit, strangled, or tied in knots whenever Prince John is angry. Even so he keeps his composure and usually is the first to notice suspicious happenings.
3. Robin Hood and Little John are best friends and culprits in crime - where Robin Hood is you will find his friend. What are Robin Hood and Little John doing when we first see them?

Answer: Walking through the forest

In the opening scene, as Roger Miller is singing "Oo-De-Lally", Robin Hood and Little John are walking down a path through the forest. They playfully knock each other off a log crossing a river. After a few moments of floating and swimming they are surprised to find that the Sheriff and his archers have surrounded them. They make their escape by running through the forest, away from the angry archers. It isn't until the end of this scene and after they give the Sheriff the slip that they rob Prince John's coach.
So first comes the walking, then the running, and then the robbing.
4. Robin Hood breaks into the prison at Prince John's castle in order to save someone. Who does Robin Hood plan to save?

Answer: Friar Tuck

Prince John sets a trap for Robin Hood after Robin has escaped from him, time and time before. The bait that Prince John uses for this trap is Friar Tuck. Friar Tuck is sentenced to hang at the gallows at daybreak. However Robin Hood outwits the sheriff, breaks out the "fat friar" and all the other tax oppressed prisoners and even takes the time to nab all of Prince John's treasury from under his nose.

However Sir Hiss wakes up and sees Robin on his way out and wakes Prince John, leading to a battle within the walls, with all the guards against Robin Hood.
5. Robin Hood encounters Prince John, guards and the Sheriff on multiple occasions. With all of his narrow escapes Robin has to get caught sometime. Where is Robin Hood captured?

Answer: At a championship archery tournament

Robin Hood is captured at the archery tournament by the kings guards and is sentenced to "sudden instant and even immediate death". However Little John helps him escape and beats the guards in a large chaotic battle, followed by their retreat to the forest.
6. Prince John hosts the tournament of the golden arrow where the winner will win a kiss from Maid Marian. What is Robin Hood disguised as, in order to attend the archery tournament and win the kiss from his true love?

Answer: A Stork

Robin is dressed up as a long legged stork and wins the golden arrow without rousing the Sheriff's suspicions. Prince John however isn't tricked as he sees Maid Marian's interest in the "gangly youth".
7. So Robin Hood tricks the sheriff pretty well, but Little John seems to be a master of disguise when he waltzes right up to Prince John and Sir Hiss as Sir Reginald, Duke of Chutney. He then sweet talks himself into the royal box and steals Sir Hiss' seat. What does Little John call Sir Hiss?

Answer: Kid, Buster, Creepy, Long one.

"Don't stick your tongue out at me kid"
"Oh excuse me buster"
"Move it creepy, get lost. Be gone long one."

Poor Hiss he is called names and hurt every time he turns around - you can't help but feel sorry for him.
8. The Sheriff of Nottingham is also the tax collector, brutally taking what little the townsfolk are able to earn and presenting it to Prince John. Taking Skippy's birthday present and taking money from the poor box is a small part of his services to the community. He is also obviously a cheat as we see he likes to setup the archery contest so that he will win. What kind of animal is the "Honorable Sheriff of Nottingham"?

Answer: A Wolf

Ol' Bad news himself is no other than a wolf. Sniffing out gold wherever the poor townsfolk hide it, his keen senses allow him to spot Robin Hood "through his phony disguises" though he never seems able to do so on Robin's many disguised encounters.
Robin Hood walks right in front of the Sheriff twice as a blind beggar, once as a stork and even impersonates a guard, Nutsy. All in all he is a good example of an honorable lawman working to better the community.
9. After Robin wins the tournament of the golden arrow and narrowly escapes the royal guard, the scene changes to Robin and Maid Marian walking through Sherwood Forest and its entire romantic atmosphere, eventually leading to where all of Robin's friends are hiding in the trees and bushes ready to throw a surprise party. During this party several of the dances are mirror images of a dance in what movie and scene?

Answer: All of these

Maid Marian starts off dancing with Otto the blacksmith, mimicking Snow White's dance with Dopey and Sneezy. Little John and Lady Kluck dance, mimicking the movements of Baloo and King Louie to "I Wanna be Like You". At the same time Maid Marian's dance with Robin Hood completely mimicks the movements of Thomas O'Malley and Duchess in their dance during "Everybody Wants to be a Cat".
Then Maid Marian goes back on to mimicking the movements of Snow White dancing with the dwarves in "The Silly Song".
This movie was made during Disney's financial pit. Being on a budget the animators took the frames of those dances, drew the new characters on them and set them on a new background.

Funny fact - Baloo and Little John are both voiced by Phil Harris.
10. At the party there is lots of entertainment. There are puppets made to look like Sir Hiss and Prince John the Phony King of England. There is also the pre-mentioned dance and where there is dancing, there is music. We see Alan-A-Dale playing his mandolin along with several other musicians including Robin. What instrument does Robin play at the dance?

Answer: A Violin

Robin plays the violin in a fiddle fashion and appears to be using his bow (as in bow and arrows) to play the instrument rather than the proper bow and ribbon designed to play on a violin.
