This wonderfully filmed, low-key film features the acting of Victor Sj�str�m as Professor Borg, and includes an appearance by one of Bergman's favorites, Max von Sydow, as Henrik �kerman.

The film features Lamberto Maggiorani as Antonio Ricci, a poor worker heading for his new job, and Vittorio Antonucci as the thief who steals his bike. His other masterwork is called 'Umberto D', also worth a look.

'Am�lie' (or 'Le Fabuleux destin d'Am�lie Poulain') is a wonderfully quirky film featuring the adventures of a young woman in search of love. The director and lead scriptwriter for the film, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, co-directed the wonderful films 'Delicatessen' and 'The City of Lost Children' with Marc Caro. Both are worth a look!

'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' was a stunning visual treat directed by the Taiwan-born Ang Lee. Lee's films also include 'The Wedding Banquet' (Hsi Yen), 'Eat Drink Man Woman' (Yin Shi Nan Nu) and 'Sense and Sensibility'. All are fine films.

Answer: Throne of Blood

The eerie action-thriller 'Throne of Blood', aka 'Kumonosu J�', starred Kurosawa's favorite actor Toshir� Mifune. It was one of many triumphs for the extraordinarily talented Japanese director whose works also included 'Rashomon', 'Yojimbo' and 'Shichinin no Samurai' (The Seven Samurai).

Many of his films have been adapted by directors in the United States, including 'Star Wars', 'The Magnificent Seven' and 'A Fistful of Dollars'.

'Farewell My Concubine' featured the acting of Gong Li and Ge You, two of China's most famous thespians. After Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige is probably China's most esteemed director internationally. He also directed 'Yellow Earth' (Huang Tudi), 'Life on a String' (Bian Zou Bian Chang) and 'Killing Me Softly'.

Based on a true story of an actual occurrence in 1905, the film 'Bronenosets Potyomkin' was well ahead of its time in the quality of its creation of film editing techniques. Apparently, it was Charlie Chaplin's favorite film.

Chow Yun-Fat plays Tequila (Yuen), while Tony Leung portrays his friend, an undercover cop named Alan. This film and the 'Better Tomorrow' trilogy are probably the best collaborations between Chow and Woo. However, my favorite Cantonese language films featuring Chow Yun-Fat are 'Full Contact' (Xia dao Gao Fei), directed by Ringo Lam, and the very funny 'God of Gamblers' series.
