Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the opening of "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home", a Starfleet ship encountered a probe of unknown origin. Which starship was this?

Answer: USS Saratoga

On encountering the probe, the Captain contacted Starfleet Command advising that USS Saratoga was patrolling sector 5, neutral zone.

USS Yorktown was seen later having already lost all power as a result of the probe. USS Ranger was the name of the nuclear submarine that Chekov and Uhura visited. USS Destiny was referred to in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine".

2. In "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home", after they figured out that the probe was sending humpback whale song in their signal, Kirk and company time travelled back to the year 1986 to find two whales to bring back to the future. What were the names of the whales that they found at the Cetacean Institute?

Answer: George and Gracie

George and Gracie were a reference to George Burns and Gracie Allen, the married comedy duo (they met in 1922). In the movie, the whales of the same name were purportedly needed to repopulate the species in the future, although in truth it was just to answer the probe's call.

3. In "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home", when rescuing Chekov from the hospital, Dr McCoy cured a patient with 23rd Century medicine. Why was the patient in the hospital?

Answer: Kidney Dialysis

McCoy was surprised that the patient could still be suffering from dialysis and wondered whether they were still in the dark ages. He gave the patient some medicine to swallow which cured her completely... much to the surprise of her doctor!

Question by Daddy19
4. In "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier", which planet had been dubbed "The Planet Of Galactic Peace"?

Answer: Nimbus III

It was hoped that if the Klingons, the Federation and the Romulans could live together on Nimbus III the risk of war would be reduced. The other three planets all featured in "Star Trek: The Next Generation".

Question by Daddy19
5. In "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier", what was the relationship between Spock and the film's 'villain', Sybok?

Answer: Half-brothers

Sybok and Spock shared the same father, but Sybok was a full-blooded Vulcan. His mother was a Vulcan princess, while Spock's mother was human.

Question by reedy
6. In "Star Trek V": The Final Frontier", what was the name of the mythical planet that Vulcans claimed was the birthplace of all creation?

Answer: Sha Ka Ree

Sybok believed that he would find God at Sha Ka Ree, which he believed would be found at the center of the galaxy. They did discover a powerful being on the planet they arrived at, but it was a malevolent creature, and not the benevolent creator that Sybok expected.

Question by reedy
7. In "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country", Chancellor Gorkon attended dinner aboard the Enterprise, at Kirk's invitation. His daughter accompanied him. What was her name?

Answer: Azetbur

After beaming aboard the Enterprise, Kirk introduced Captain Spock. The Chancellor then introduced his senior staff, starting with his daughter, Azetbur. We see little of her during the film, however she was named Chancellor following her father's death. Despite her father's assassination, she continued the peace process that he had started.

Brigadier Kerla was Chancellor Gorkon's military advisor. Martia was the shape-shifter that Kirk and McCoy meet on Rura Penthe. Uhura identified the USS Enterprise as the IKS Ursva when they were heading to Rura Penthe on the rescue mission.

Question by Daddy19
8. In "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country", what was the name of the prison planet that Kirk and McCoy were sent to for the assassination of the Klingon Chancellor?

Answer: Rura Penthe

Kirk's documented hatred of the Klingons seemed to be the deciding factor in their sentencing. They received a sentence of life imprisonment. A shape-shifting creature helped them escape (while in reality intending to kill them).

Rura Penthe had no protective measures beyond a shield to prevent unauthorized beam-outs. The inhospitable nature of the planet's weather was considered severe enough that no one could escape.

Question by reedy
9. Which former Enterprise crew member helmed the USS Excelsior and helped Kirk in a space battle against Chang in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country"?

Answer: Hikaru Sulu

Captain Sulu had been assigned with protecting the peace talks location, Camp Khitomer. With the news of a pending assassination attempt, Sulu revealed the location to Kirk.

Question by reedy
10. In "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country", who tried to shoot the Federation President at Camp Khitomer when the peace conference was rescheduled?

Answer: Colonel West

In a further attempt to derail the fledgling Federation-Klingon peace process, we see a Klingon taking aim at the President while he was at the podium. Kirk beamed in and knocked him to the ground, saving his life. Scotty found the would-be assassin and shot him so he fell through the glass into the auditorium.

Colonel Worf can be heard remarking that was not Klingon blood and the assassin's mask was removed to reveal a human. Someone was heard to remark "It's Colonel West!".

Colonel West was played by Rene Auberjonois, who went on to play Odo in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine".
