Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. See seal ya

Answer: Cecilia

Simon and Garfunkel released the best-selling album 'Bridge over Troubled Water' in 1970. Unfortunately, they split up shortly afterwards.
2. Ins air

Answer: In Zaire

A one-hit wonder by Johnny Wakelin in 1974, it covered the heavyweight title match held in Kinshasa, Zaire, between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in 'The Rumble in the Jungle'. If it had have been recorded today, the song would be known as 'In The Democratic Republic of the Congo', possibly a bit long for a Fractured Words quiz.
3. Imogen

Answer: Imagine

John Lennon's best seller, 'Imagine' rates as one of the most successful songs of all time. He released it in 1971 off the album of the same name and it hit Top Ten in charts all over the world.
4. Low la

Answer: Lola

The Kinks hit Top Ten with this song in 1970, but had to get it past the BBC censorship policy first. It was censored, not for the content (transvestites), but for mentioning Coca-Cola, which breached product placement guidelines; it was reworded to 'cherry cola'.
5. Four tune eightsome

Answer: fortunate son

A song with a powerful message. John Fogerty, lead singer of Creedence Clearwater Revival, was drafted into the US Army in 1966 and discharged a year later. I wonder if any senator's sons were in his regiment...
6. Spy written theirs cry

Answer: spirit in the sky

A simple gospel rock song, released in 1969 by Norman Greenbaum. It performed far better than his previous effort, 'The Eggplant That Ate Chicago'.
7. Judea's guys

Answer: Judy in disguise

John Fred & His Playboy Band released this fun song in 1967, their one and only foray into the charts. It is a great parody of the Beatles' 'Lucy In the Sky (With Diamonds)'.
8. Spay so ditty

Answer: Space Oddity

David Bowie released the record just a few days before Apollo 11 landed on the moon in 1969. Is the song about space, or drugs, or something else? I am not sure and Bowie has been rather oblique about it all, but it is still a great piece of music.
9. Guard in potty

Answer: garden party

An interesting song about a concert at Madison Square Garden in 1971. Rick Nelson was booed offstage by the audience, because he had changed his style to a more country feel. A few of his old friends were there, George Harrison, John and Yoko, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley. The 1972 release was his last big hit and he died in a plane crash DeKalb, Texas, on December 31, 1985.
10. Tack see

Answer: taxi

One of my favourite balladeers, Harry Chapin was only 38 when he died in a car accident. 'Taxi' is a sad song about a down-on-his-luck cabbie picked up a fare that he recognised as an old flame. His other major hits were 'WOLD' and 'Cats in the Cradle', both in 1974.
